These are wonderful mounts and I tried a borrowed one and honestly I prefer my Warne 100% and Aero Precision mounts. It’s when DOD is mentioned that justifies the insane pricing. Semper Fidelis

He acts like DOD soliciting a company is a special thing. Anyone that’s worked in the industry know DOD will try to get companies to build shit for free. All in the name of a potential contract. Hell folks DOD even solicited SlideFire ...Yes the bump stock company ... so come on people. It’s the government. Not the smartest minds.

Can you explain to us if Geissele mount can save scopes when mounted on the SCAR 17. I think a good mount can damp out the vibration.
@ranchhandrandy32136 жыл бұрын
I doubt it man. That would require some sort of dampener I think. The only scope I've ever heard of holding up on a SCAR-H over any length of time is an ELCAN. Kind of cost prohibitive though.

So the reason dod wanted a different scope mount is because they were crushing scopes. Are they completely against lapping the rings before mounting the scope? Am I missing something here? And is it recommended to lap the Geissele mount or just completely unnecessary?

This new ALCOA 2099 mount with titanium crossbolts will probably be double the current $350 price. A Vortex Optics Razor HD Gen III is approximately $2,550, Geissele Super Duty Rifle, 16", 5.56MM, $2,500. That's $5-K plus a Geissele ALCOA 2099 mount ($$$$) and a $450 Surefire M312C Scout Light. Plan on a $6,000 build.

Why on earth are you doing this out of a billet of 7075 when an extrusion would save so much money and time as well as being just as high quality and precise. You're making a $200 mount cost nearly $200 more. Doing this product from billet shows a lack of commitment to this line.
@YZFoFittie8 жыл бұрын
+Sam_Cummins Says a guy who does not understand the differences, metallurgically speaking. Its like a child arguing with their parent about the birds and the bee's...
@shcusmc8 жыл бұрын
Oh please, educate me. An extrusion is a billet that instead of being extruded and cut into blocks and wasting material, it's formed into a shape that requires less material to produce the finished mount. Why wouldn't you want to reduce the amount of material required per unit and reduce the cost per unit in the long run?
@YZFoFittie8 жыл бұрын
Like I said, you are not well educated in alloys nor the processes. An extrusion isnt a "billet" its in fact, an "extrusion". Google for more details, im not typing that much. A billet is a block of "cast" aluminum that is ready to be machined and is usually square or rectangular. You only know enough to sound stupid to someone like Bill Geissele, the key is the alloy he is using (7075) and the necessity for even, precise, density and grain structure. All that being said, before you call someone out who knows exactly what he is doing, make sure you actually know as much as you think you do, thats all...
@breyton4908 жыл бұрын
YZFoFittie is right. Billet aluminum will have different properties than an extruded blank. Sam, maybe you are confusing the extruded aluminum blank with that of a forged blank... The forged blank could be shaped to produce less waste and less machining and still retain the mechanical properties of the design specs. But the cost of the dies for a forging are very expensive and the volume of the mfg. needs to justify the forging setup costs. I am sure if BG gets an order from the DoD to make a million of these, that is the route he would go to cut down on mfg cost and machine time, but if he is only make a thousand or so a year, purchasing billet aluminum stock and doing extra machining is the way to go financially. Just my 2 cents...
