why did you put a dot after c?

The dot must be placed after the c because otherwise Matlab would attempt to do matrix math with the vector x. The dot tells Matlab to divide c by each item in the vector x, then store all of the values for T that are calculated from each value of x.

because c is part of an operation involving vector x, it also must include a dot just like x, even though c is not a vector?

Essentially yes. Otherwise Matlab will attempt to do matrix math involving x instead of simply using each item in x to do the same calculation
