This is the the best first lecture on Optics that I have ever seen. Wow.. Thanks So much. It is very inspirational and makes you love the subject. Your mechanical models of light wavefront are exceptional. I wish that all teachers would have that much passion and love for the subject. Thanks so much Sir.

I wish i was more interested in science and math when i was younger because now im 24 and wanting to learn everything about optics as much as i can with no background in the sciences at all. I'd like to create holograms/augmented reality hardware and even do breakthrough research in the field of quantum holography one day! Feeling very inspired right now

I went back to school in my 30's and l am literally in this class when it was filmed. I was so lucky to have him as an instructor. Just watching this video for a little nostalgia right now. I am currently an electrical engineer and headed back to SBCC in a couple of weeks to talk to first year students about what it's like to be an engineering student, what they can expect, and what it's like to be a professional engineer.

Yes, Dr. Young is the best physics teacher I've found on KZbin. TG this is in video, so we can stop/rewind when we've caught ourselves not paying full attention.

18:23 frequency so low that our ears can't hear it: Infrasonic not ultrasonic, may be unintentional.

It sure was unintentional. He says that correctly at 23:46. But it got my attention too.

Thank you for the class. I love it. I would like to know how to solve the lateral displacement problem. I have done it myself but not sure if it is right. Where could I find a step by step solution? Thanks in advance.

God, he is good at teaching. I wish, he took a little more time to explain why light particles don’t have mass. If light has energy then it needs to have energy to obey E = mc2

How much does a sound wave weigh? For the same reason this question doesn’t make much sense, light has no mass. Light can also never be at rest, so it cannot have a rest mass. However a system of 2 photons does have effective mass
