If you want to see more of these videos, or would like to say thanks for this one, the best way you can do that is by becoming a patron - see the link above :). And a huge thank you to all my existing patrons - you make these videos possible.
This is part of my series on semiconductor physics (often called Electronics 1 at university). This is based on the book Semiconductor Physics and Devices by Donald Neamen, as well as the EECS 170A/174 courses taught at UC Irvine.
Hope you found this video helpful, please post in the comments below anything I can do to improve future videos, or suggestions you have for future videos.

I absolutely share your enthusiasm for phontonics+optoelectronics, given that it is multi-disciplinary, it truely keeps you on your toes learning as much as you can.

My prof. from solid state devices course made a heterostructure with AlGaAs and GaAs to make a infrared detector in 2005. He mentioned it in one of his lectures. Thank you for sharing these videos. It helps a lot to learn a subject from different perspective.

As an ECE student , this videos are awesome! Thanks! [ By the way, I like the balance of explanations to equations but, it might be nice if you could make extra videos where you go more deeply to some of the math.] Thanks again :)

@@JordanEdmundsEECSthanks for not overwhelming with equations! I’m a keen student and enthusiast of Electrical engineering but the intense amount of math and equations scares me off. I would love to get the big ideas and concepts right first before diving into the math. Would love your advice on that on how to navigate around that since I have genuine interest in the field.

Jordan, thanks for your videos! Just to clarify - in the case of InGaAs/GaAs quantum well the energy gap of GaAs should be larger than that of InGaAs.

Explanation is very excellent sir. Your topic of interest is absorption! I want to investigate about reflection? Where and how can I go further? Please guide if you know! I want relation between reflection of a em wave and Fermi energy of materials which reflects it? What should I refer?

Jordan have you heard of the company POET Technologies? They've apparently created a revolutionary Optical Interposer and Optical Engine. All their testing is complete and they are working with customers to integrate into products. I'd be interested in your opinion on the technicals they've released.

No I have not, it sounds cool but since it's wafer-level that's going to be very annoying for all the poor folks that don't buy whole wafers and rely on other fabs to send them chips. A whole wafer can easily run in the multiple millions of dollars, so it's not cheap.

@JordanEdmundsEECS

Hmmm, I don’t know that there are any good “beginner” books, the simplest one is probably the one by S.O. Kasap, it’s pretty decent.

I am a non-electronics (mechanical) student. What are the pre-requisite subjects to be covered to understand this course?
@JordanEdmundsEECS
@JordanEdmundsEECS 5 жыл бұрын
1. A course in introductory semiconductor physics (I have a whole playlist for that) and 2. A basic circuits class (so you understand things like RC circuits and frequency response) and 3. An understanding of plane waves / basic electromagnetism and 4. A basic grasp of quantum mechanics and understanding the wavefunction (this is usually bundled into a semiconductor physics course or a course on modern physics)
