Q: What is projectile motion in physics?
Ans: A form of motion experienced by an object projected near the earth's surface that moves along curved or parabolic path under the action of gravitu is called projectile motion.
Projectile motion is 2d motion. It means that an object possesses projectile motion moves along x-axis and y-axis.
For example, when you kick a football, it moves along a curved path. Such type of motion of an object is called projectile motion. During cricket match, when a batsman hits a ball; it moves along curved path. Such type of motion is called projectile motion.
To learn about all these concepts, watch this lecture till the end.

Air resistance is in the opposed direction of velocity so can't be horizontal in the parabolic motion. Not sure that a football (soccer) ball is the better example to take to neglect air resistance...
