Good information! I’m not too happy about using flammable refrigerants whether they be on home appliances or residential HVAC. One thing I know for sure is those linear compressors used on home appliances. My new freezer with R600 give up the ghost about 3 months after I bought it and GE said it was not repairable and finally refunded some of my money. Can’t say if it was the refrigerant or the compressor but after discharging and evacuating I manned up and brazed in some taps and the compressor was equalized. Go figure😊

All common refrigerants are flammable (R3/ammonia is one exception). However, the hydrocarbon ones don't produce poison gas when they burn like the freon ones.

Anyway, a statement was made that they are effectively interchangeable. According to the Danfoss slider app there is approximately a 20 Psig difference at 40 degrees. Close I guess, but close enough to be interchangeable? I’m not experienced enough to say.. what are your thoughts?

At around 3:30 you express your preference for single component, which makes sense. I think you are alluding, but don't actually state, that it would make it easy to "top off" a charge if there is a slow leak that is hard to detect, without having to worry if the mix has been compromised. Is that one of the reasons? I'm just trying to learn as a homeowner who needs to replace a old unit (inside/outside) that has finally gone below the amount of charge needed to provide cooling.

Here we are with 10 months left to go and we don't even know what threads we're using on our hoses. Even though I have had the Esco training the EPA has not even said if certification is required. Maybe they'll let us know what we need to do somewhere around 1/1/25. Perhaps some of the supply houses in the local Atlanta area will have some things in them such as R32, reclaim canisters, hoses if needed. You know all the expensive stuff we're going to have to purchase before we can do this, it's not even available at this point. I know I'm going to need some expensive items such as a fire extinguisher and a holding bracket for an upright reclaim tank (not available in the continental US). Simply put there are way too many questions that are unanswered with only 10 months to go. Someone better get on the ball because I'm not going to be ready if this is the way it's going to go.

An important point was missed. The GWP effect is when there is a LEAK! not while it's in the system. When & IF it leaks when there is a fire, it will propagate the fire!!! Also, very important flammable A2L (R32 or R454B) might and could INTERNALY explode. This is true if the vacuum process (must be higher than R410A an A1 class non-flammable, non-explosive class) is not perfect (presence of moisture/oxygen) as when compressed the temperature could reach the lubricating OIL ignition temperature, and in the presence of flammable refrigerant (any A2, A2L or worse A3) the oil might ignite the flammable refrigerants! This possibility will not exist if A1 class non-flammable refrigerants are present. Neil Afram Director of Space Air Ltd. distributor of AC & Heat Pumps since 1980.

If you buy into this environmental nonsense, isn’t the unnecessary and excessive dumping of otherwise useable equipment into landfills just a different form of polluting the environment? I’ve seen on websites like Ali buba where you can buy a pallet of 30lb cylinders of R-12 for about $50 per cylinder from China. Same for R-22. I’d guess someone somewhere is buying it. Daikin info regarding the R32 website is deceptive for a simple reason: The only classification for refrigerants are ASHRAE34 & ISO817 and it classifies refrigerant not only in respect to GWP (only important IF it LEAKS). R32 require extensive safety requirements and the 1st flammable (and can be explosive if no perfect vacuum, and called Diesel Effect) refrigerant in splits systems knowing very well that R410A an A1 class nonflammable, nonexplosive is 50% R32 and 50% R125!! and been around since 1990? The only reason for the mixture is to curtail the flammability of R32? it si not more efficient than R410A and by the way you can drop R410A in and R32 charged equipment without any consequence as the main 4 components (compressor, condenser, expansion device & evaporator) ar the same!!! So why use R32 or any A2L in domestic and small splits applications? a con, Ignorance or what?
