Introduction to SAP Testing for SAP Beginners

Testing the SAP system before it goes live is one of the cornerstones of every SAP project.
In a traditional waterfall project, there are five SAP test types that you should know as an SAP consultant.
In this short introduction, I talk about what each test type is, why it is done, when it is performed, who does it, and in which system it takes place.

Great jobs on the videos! For the testing I personally would go like this: performance testing is also a subset of testing as Non- Functional testing. 1. Unit Testing (Dev) environment 2. Integration Testing (Integration test environment rule here stub can be used, outbound interfaces may not be connected to a partner, a module may not be available, test data may not be up to date…etc). Regression testing can occur there as part of a cycle, regression against a specific area where defect fixes where found. If enough volume of data exist batch performance testing and tuning can occur here. 3. System Test (Production like environment all connected with the latest Production data refresh) ). Regression testing can occur there as part of a cycle, regression against a specific area where defect fixes where found. Performance Testing is should be executed here to certify the change against a prod like environment and challenging other functional area as well as the vendor 4. E2E Testing phase to test the integrated business process flow (OTC, M2C, …) 5. UAT usually done in a pre prod or UAT environment. 6. In some cases, Parallel Testing occur as a final phase (pre prod environment vs prod, the goal here is to run the same transaction in both system and compare the results) 7. Least but not last Production post go live validation 8. The stabilization phase where the testing is done to support prod incidents and changes associated with it. The most frequent issues found post production will be security: roles, and privileges. That is my spin on it 😉 Some of the activities above are broken down into iterative testing phases for Activate/Agile, however they are all a must. Have a great day! - Thierry

Incorrect as far as integration testing being the same as system testing. Integration testing only covers the points of integration while system integration testing (SIT, same as End-to-End testing), covers start to finish. Regression testing occurs before UAT. Regression is the last phase done by the test team before bringing in the end users who'll perform UAT.
