Akshayaa correct, here in the west we believe all can be grasped, be made to present itself fully to us, by the application of reason and the practise of science. But something must have the being which manifest as being scientific, that means Entities as for this, as for that, by using them while being a possibility of itself, a scientist. That being, which can’t be explained by the being it allows, needs new thinking and language to show itself. Poetry or great litriture will show us this primordial foundation of our existence, not science, or logically structured reasoning, which is a derivative possibility of it.

Jung made me aware that humanity, as well as every individual, began life immersed entirely in unconscious thought (dreamlike, mystical, personifying objects with spirit), and gradually grew out of that and into full conscious awareness. I believe through the pre-socratics and the classical philosophers of Greece we can witness this change. It is quite literally the switch from mythology and religion to rationality, logic and science. But unfortunately we've thrown out the baby with the bathwater, and most modern people dismiss and ridicule ancient thought as primitive and superstitious. In fact it shows us the way the unconscious (our source) functions.

I think that there is another reason why we should study the Presocratics. I think that even if the western world has been heavily influenced by Plato and Aristotle up to the 20th century at least, modern science, especially the one linked to quantum reality, but also modern art, has never stopped stressing how the ideas of these 2 philosophers have actually led human consciousness in the wrong direction. The Presocratics are much closer to the way a modern scientists and artists think, devoid of idealistic and deterministic ways of explaining reality instead of observing it; justifying, instead of understanding.

Giovanni Dominoni This is true of only some of the Presocratics. The Eleatics, particularly Parmenides, seem to me to have initiated the repudiation of empiricism, reifying logical argument for its own sake regardless of the empirical utility or even potential heuristic value of its conclusions.

Great lectures! Regarding the it vs thou, which is brilliant and important to understand the differences between modern and ancient man - I would like to add that there still seems to remain some type of primitive attitude among certain "modern" people where they don't blame themselves, nor a stone spirit for tripping upon a stone, but either project the fault upon another person in their close relation, a certain group of people or society as a whole. It is as if they still do not comprehend the difference between the personal and external, or man-made and metaphysical outer world.

This video is notable for the collective naivete` of its discourse. It is delivered, like it has been formulated in the mind of a college student who read extensively, and copied profusely everything that was studied, such that contradictions about. Confusion between the dichotomy of phusis and nous is. It was claimed that Aristotle abandoned metaphysics only to be followed by the indication that Aristotle replaced metaphysics with...more metaphysics. There were other jumbled up ideas and claims. The claim of "scientific mind" was also employed without the realization that it is an oxymoron. A great deal of academic jargon is presented.

I don't know why the super intellectual guy above is hating on it. Why are you watching such a video if it's beneath you? Must need to make yourself feel better by putting others down for utilizing what works for them. And btw, knowledge exists, how? By those who've come before us and continued to pass it down through the ages. Obviously the gentleman who made this video researched and is passing on this information to be understood for others to learn. The dude putting him down must've just knew everything from the moment he hatched from his egg. Good for you. Now back to my studies I go on this subject. Because I am not naturally inclined with it. It's also not like that shift was a good one, our shit's all outta whack. We have the knowledge to sent people to mars but we can't seem to feed, clothe or educate our people properly. We don't just see the material world itself as inert and to be used to our benefit, we look at each other like that...especially from the top down.
