Can you discuss dyeing with day lilies? Yellow ones, preferably, and I don't care which part of the plant.

Ok! I've dug in a bit on the question of daylilies. I'm not sure you're going to like it. It seems that you can potentially get green shades from dyeing with the purple flowers (I've seen one account that got those results using a 24-hour solar dye). But the colour is unlikely to be stable (I believe it's in the anthocyanins group which breakdown over a shorter amount of time). So it's going to fade in the sunlight and/or with washing. I still sometimes use dyes like these but for weaving projects that will be hung away from light. If you want to move ahead and see what you get, I recommend premordanting with alum (12% weight of fiber) and try the flowers at a ratio between 5-10:1 (so for every pound of fiber, use 5-10 lbs of flowers). @@WildcraftDyeing, I have yellow day lilies. I used the flowers 1 day after they closed, and simmered them for an hour. I added a splash of ammonia per another KZbinr who said it turned her fawn to green. I've gotten a nice pretty yellow. When it dries, I will hang one hank in the south facing window, and one in the north to see how it fades.
