Red, I’m retired now, but worked 32 years in a coal fired power plant as a certified welder for most of those years until I was tired of crawling on pipe, grating and standing on my head welding. 😂 then I went into management. Everything you just talked about is absolutely true, especially the inspector. I took welding in vocational school in high school and it came natural to me, but seen people struggle for years trying to master it. Advice to the beginner welder, pay attention to the old timers, you will learn more from them than any book. Thanks for bringing back some good ole memories.

Thank you for watching. I worked on the road back in the 90's on coal fired units around Owensboro Ky.

Thanks for the tips! I'm 20 now and have been welding since I was 13. Tips are always great no matter how long you've been welding. Merry Christmas!

Hi Red, I enjoy your knowledge, experience and sense of humor. Your choice of words is very interesting and enjoyable to listen too. I am not a welder, but I was a QA engineer for many many years and I did several years of weld inspection, so I kinda know a good weld when I see one. WE built subassemblies for US Army back hoes and other companies. I also think that your a good teacher, so don't sir discount yourself. You are a good friend to David who I watch catching hogs. I also like to learn about mechanic methods. I will keep watching so stay well and God Bless you Sir.

I was a QA engineer for Babcock & Wilcox in the boiler industry. I had to help David put in a water heater at his house yesterday.

My dear sweet mother was a welder during WWII. Instead of a Rosie the Riveter, she welded fuel tanks.

Hello 👋 Red, I been seeing you with the yawt for some time now. I’m glad he finally give out your channel. I’m only a couple years behind you in age, I’m trying to build a farm in retirement. There’s a whole lot of welding that’s required for a farm. I have an old craftsman welder that’s nearly as big as a kitchen stove. I know there’s probably better smaller welders, but I don’t have much money in it. I actually paid more for the new leads, helmet, and gloves than I do the welder. I learned more from you in this short video than from high school two years. Thank you 🙏 for your generosity sharing your knowledge 👍💪🙌🙏🌈✌️🐽🐷🐖

Thank you. I know nothing about welding but your video is very interesting. I sure have fond memories following my dad around the farm, as a little girl. I’d play around with a rod or two until dad saw me😂 Only thing I really knew was not to look into the arc flash, as dad or my brothers were welding. Hope you had a blessed and Merry Christmas.

Your video was interesting. I learned a lot and understood what you were talking about in the heat affected zone and welding rod size.

Great information, Red! Keep up teaching us about welding and tolerances. For years, I ran a CNC machine made by Makino. I also ran 2 lathes, one was 1st stage, and the 2nd was a 2nd stage. The Makino was a duel deck to finish the parts.

Great vid Red, I'm 56 and farm welded my whole life here at the house out of necessity. Believe me I'm not even close to a good welder I'm just one to text something together and tries to make it through the end of planting our harvest season And then when winter time sits in i always call a professional to cut my stuff off and put a proper weld on it.

And old refrigerator that doesn't get cold with a light bulb that stays on in the inside, makes a good place to store your welding rods. Put a small bag of plain charcoal in the bottom also helps.
