I was raised in a strict Baptist family, and left the church at 12 and never went back. I grew up in the country, surrounded by woods and I have always felt that connection. I found Wicca at the age of 15 as a school research paper for English class and I felt that rapid heartbeat. At 18, I found an Alexandrian coven and nearly 7 years we had wonderful love and trust but the coven dismantled and went our own ways. I've been a solitary Wiccan ever since. I'm like you, scared from religious trauma lol so I don't follow wiccas religion. However I do appreciate the wheel of the year because living with a mental and chronic illness isn't easy so it lifts my spirits to be connected to the changing of the seasons. I enjoy reading about the season that we are in when I'm really low, almost always puts a smile on my face. Watching other witches on KZbin also makes me feel connected to my craft. Many Wiccans such as myself see Wicca as a modern construct for an ancient spiritual path, not a religion. Alister Crowley in my opinion was an evil man and I definitely don't associate him with Wicca as Gerald sperated from him and Mr. Crowley went onto order of the golden dawn. I believe in the law of karma but not threefold. Eclectic Wicca is more of a spirituality because you make the rules, you choose what fits and feels good to you unlike religion where you either jump in the boat or don't, in eclectic Wicca, you build your own boat using pieces offered from peers, other Wiccans, other humans, and most importantly, your own divine inspiration. I want to speak on your comment because I’ve done so many talks on Crowley. Yes I mean he was evil in ways but historical context is important and at the time he was the bull witchcraft needed. He was the reaction of centuries of persecution and his aggressiveness did help to push past a lot of those trying to suppress his. He also achieved great power though I don’t like his methods. But I think it’s easy to call him evil not understanding the history of the time. I believe he saw the burning times and he was the force of revenge in a way. He did dark shit, but I think it’s important that he also brought a lot of good things. The Thoth Tarot Deck is a shining example of that. I don’t approve of everything about Crowley, but understanding historical context is important. He became the villain to take on a very Christian world to allow more peaceful forces like Gardner and Wicca to bloom.

My aunt and uncle were kicked out of my family when I was 12 because they began believing in wicca. I grew up in a very strict christian-baptist household with lots of rules. I was monitored closely but i was still curious. I wound up borrowing my friends' phones and researching with them about it. I am now in my 20s and i still believe in it.

I’m probably old enough to be your uncle. Christianity works for some, but Wicca just makes sense. You can live by someone else’s story or you can go create your own. Choose your own adventure. The other aspect missing from Christianity is the inner knowing or intuition. Also Wicca teaches complete self acceptance which most religions don’t to what? To keep you coming back. I grew up in quite the opposite of how many people grew up. My family are extremely Atheist to the point that they hate religion and see it as barbaric (even though Atheism is a religion by definition) and I grew up being attracted to it but always being pulled away from it. I recently made an offering to Odin asking for guidance after I finally decided to brave my fears and shake what my parents instilled into me as a child and start following Paganism. I gave Odin some bread and water and he has lead me here. He has lead me to Wicca. I'm forever greatful to Odin for this. I want to adopt the core beliefs of Wicca into my life and learn all I can about the Celtic, Norse, Greek, Roman, Germanic and Egyptian Gods. The path of Wicca just feels right somehow

I highly recommend anyone starting out getting the book: Complete Book of Witchcraft by: Raymond Buckland. Some of the things in it may not pertain to the way you want to practice, but it is widely known as the first place to start. It also has questions and workbook style prompts at the end of every chapter, so you can start to build your practice as you learn. It doesn’t have the nickname “big blue” for nothing, since so many others started out with this book.

I...I've always been attracted to this, from young playing in the garden and literally having conversations with flowers and trees, my grandmother told me stories of how our Lord's and mother's brought life and how we celebrate certain festivals. It's been 10 years since she passed away and finding my love in my religion slipped away ...I want to find it again but I want to find myself and I feel when I find myself, I'll be able to find my way back to my culture and find the love of it since I'm born into it, I don't have any elders to guide me from here so my hopes brought me here... i have always been interested in witchcraft and wicca, but was also scared of being shunned and called weird. even to this day i have a little voice in my head telling me not the follow this interest further. then i went to a local dark art craft fair and met a really nice woman who didn't even speak to me for more then 3 mins before she mentioned about my alter, when telling her i didn't have one she simply added i gave off the vibes i did. i left with one small cast iron cauldron some charcoal and four jars of incense. when i got home i repaired a set of draws to place the cauldron pride of place. i'm finally gonna take the first step to see were this leads me.... any advice would be helpful

I did carpenter work for a publicly admitted witch name Lucy Marie Singh. She walked around me counter clock wise 3x and I felt a curse, a darkness come over me. I went crazy. Religion is the worship of deities and following a set of laid down rules. Neither of which I do, I follow my own moral code - which has nuances and is not a black and white affair and I do not worship deities. So I set no altar to them, and make no offerings, nor do I ‘bargain’ with them or pray. My craft works with earth’s magic, as well as my own, following an old traditional style. I am just a witch or someone who tries to understand all of earth’s energies and how you might use them.

I’ve never connected with any religions and was also forced into religions growing up, just felt like it didn’t come to me naturally. I simply do not believe in a god. But Wicca and witchcraft has caught my attention for many years. I’m not sure if I believe in those dieties as well because I’m very skeptical but I do believe in spirits and ghosts. Her information is correct though and so good for new Wiccans, and she also said she is a traditional witch who does enjoy the practices of Wicca. Also, Wicca is often a starters religion for witches to find their path. Meaning she may have started there which is likely because it’s hard to find access to witchcraft without first going through Wicca since it’s accessible. I myself chose to remain Wiccan while many chose to move on to other paths. Regardless of her history she knows a lot about the subject and I think that’s great :). Blessed Be
