Today I went to the Requiem-Mass for the 3 FSSPX-seminarists who died during a snow incident a few days ago. Eric's music has helped me very much to live the H. Mass as it was meant to be, I fully understood each word of the sacred liturgy and was able to pray in a fitting way for those three young men who passed away too soon.

OMG! My family are regaling each other with stories of being alter boys, having to memorize the Latin, and then inevitably what our favorite music was. My brother said that he doesn't much care how he gets disposed of in the end, but a small part of him wants a Gregorian Dies Irae to be part of it. He remembers the organist's rousing renditions during the hundred or so requiem masses he served at. Is it possible that this Vatican II generation of now lapsed Catholics might be enticed back through the doors by way of the the very Latin mass we rejoiced in overthrowing?!

Once they got rid of Latin and the beautiful Gregorian chants the Catholic mass was no longer recognizable. The guitar hootenanny and protestant hymns were introduced in the 1970's and turned me right off. I was in my early 20's and I hate what they have done to the ancient mass that I used to attend as a child in the 1950's and 1960's. A fatal error.

Yeah, it is sad. I'm glad that most of the younger folks prefer tradition, especially when it comes to the liturgy (i.e., propers, chant, traditional hymns). As far as Funeral/Requiem Masses are concerned, it's sad that you won't hear the Introit ("Requiem Aeternam") or the Sequence ("Dies Irae"). It's definitely something that I, personally, would want to have at my funeral. At some Catholic funerals, nowadays, they use junk, such as the song, "On Eagle's Wings."

They were caught in an avalanche, 3 out of 4 died, they had just said H. Mass that morning and had set out into the snow. FSSPX churches everywhere in the world held Requiem Masses no doubt. I personally visited 2 of them; a High Mass and a Low Mass.
