Having owned both, and used both for a street/trail combo, I can say with the utmost certainty, the xr4 is a better trail bike, and DS bike. Xr just has WAY more balls and is almost 100lbs lighter

Got both bikes and have harescrambled both and the drz with kickstart only version with fcr carb and will spank the xr all day long. Its faster, lighter, turns better and has better suspension. It has also been more durable than the xr.

Whoever is on the xr needs a bit more training on hills because the xr should just go up

Get 1 tooth smaller front sprocket, or add 3 teeth to back (at a minimum) to lower your gearing. Get a better / higher speed start by the time you hit the bottom of the hill, pick a better line (ie: don't cross over 3 different lines mr. XR), and start with smaller hills you can manage to practice and then move on to larger hills. Looks like you were having a blast though, and that's what matters most (providing no broken bones).

Haha. Right. The drz with proper gearing (like 14/47 stock "E" gears, or even lower) the DRZ can climb a tree. No low end, good one. That's why good riders can pull power wheelies in 3 gears. Of course, a good rider helps. At first I thought I was watching the special Olympics hill climb event. :)
