I always turn my hook to run with the worm, hook point up on a neko rig, due to the weight making it fall vertical and standing the worm vertical as you hop it, surprised you show hooking it the same as a wacky presentation, which will place the hook horizontally on a neko rig. Interesting.

Maybe the worm's tail is less likely to get hooked? It's happened to me on wacky. Not you?

Great video as always. Content that can be applied in the water. Would like to see videos on ... 1. Bait rotations and why secondary bites happen when the first offering doesn't get a sniff. 2. What it costs gear-wise to move up the success ladder as an angler. Not talking about becoming a pro, just a guy who regularly catches them regardless of conditions. Its easy to invest $1000s in equipment which many of us cannot do.

It's actually pronounced "neck-o" in Japan and translates as "cat". I'm Japanese-American and enjoyed your recent video about Japanese anglers! Thanks for your great fishing channel!

Official pronunciation aside, it's just easier to say neeko. Necco reminds me of a candy wafer from my younger days.

Thanks Randy it all makes perfect sense. Your explanation on how and where to use these set ups was spot on . The fact that the zoom trick warm floats would makes it a deadly choice on neko ric.

I agree with everything you told us, except for the neko hook position, i think the worm sinks weird if the hook is rigged like you suggest instead of in alignment with the bait. For wacky I 100% agree with the no oring and sideways hook.

If you wanted to keep the orientation of the hook but didn't want to hook the worm. Use 2 orings and have them criss cross. The hook can hook through where the orings cross and you are able to keep the hook in sideways orientation.

I was taught a little differently. Inline hooked, nose weighted is Neko; appears as a rooting bait scrubbing the mud feeding. The wacky is weighted or unweighted bait with a perpendicular hook with or without o-rings or bands around the middle.

Neko is my go-to confidence rig. It's from the wacky rig lineage but I fish it more like a shaky head. I always rig it with an o-ring, hook point up- with a wacky I don't use an o-ring and rig the hook point perpendicular to the bait. Neko is hooked nearer the bottom, wacky nearer the center. For baits I pretty much exclusively wacky rig with stick baits, either a real Senko or a Bass Pro stick-o because the action is just superior. I never use stick baits for Neko rigs. I use Zoom magnum trick worms or magnum finesse worms. I use o-rings with Neko rigs. O-rings for me are to facilitate hooking the bait, not to keep the bait intact. If I want a more slim profile with a similar action, like a standard trick worm, I throw a chicken rig with a light wire EWG. I fish it similar to a shaky head as well. I don't fish actual shaky heads as much because they snag in the rocks more easily than a weighted worm. Keep more tackle this way and spend more time fishing than tying rigs.

The side hook works great if you aren't using the neko retrieve to cover water. When you bounce it and retrieve to cover water the side hook doesn't look near as natural.

I guess technically I've been fishing the Neko rig all this time instead of the Wacky Worm, LOL. We always ran nails in the head; in fact it is rare that I don't with the trick worm. The stick baits I typically acutally wacky rig it.

Why do you use the gamakatsu straight shank with the plastic keeper on it instead of one without it. You said that the o ring is something that you do not use partly because of its unnatural look and yet you fish a hook with an unnatural look that you are not using for its intended purpose. That spur will also have more of a chance to catch weeds upon retrieve. Please explain.
@randyblaukatintuitive
@randyblaukatintuitive 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve experimented with lots of different hook styles and sizes and this is the one that works best for me. The O-ring not only adds a visual negative to the bait but the hook position is not as effective as hooking it straight through. The hook is always going to be a bite negative to some degree
@jackstein5486
@jackstein5486 3 жыл бұрын
@@randyblaukatintuitive Thanks for your reply. While I do agree with not using an O ring as you previously had mentioned, I use the Gamakatsu G-finesse stinger wacky/neko hook as it is a straight shank light wire without the spur, just saying.
