I am 25 and personally prefer going down the bank or graphing over a brush like with 2D and down image and then backing off and firing in there and seeing what bites. No FFS needed. Takes the fun out of it. I’d take a square bill or a topwater going down a seawall no electronics on the boat over anything too. It’s just plain simple fun.

I cut my teeth bass fishing on the shore line of lakes in my area back in the early 80's. Tossing spinnerbaits to bass in the weedbeds. We couldn't afford a boat. I had a Abu Garcia 5000, 12lb test Stren, and 5'-6" Boron pistol grip rod. Back then, my fishing buddies said I was cheating with that spinnerbait. LoL, how times have changed.

That was way before tournament fishing and the lakes were full of fish. Tournament fishing is more of a harm than livescope. If Randy were really concerned for the fish he would be preaching to stop tournament fishing all together. That would require him to get a real job though. Without this livescope arguing every other day, he has little to nothing to talk about and gets no clicks. No clicks = getting a real job. Livescope has saved him from getting a real job, lets face it. He should be praising Garmin, not cussing them.

I could honestly care less about the tournament results, but the ffs has ramped up the catch rates to the point that it has to be impacting the bass. Toss in the fact that they continue to hold tourneys during spawning times and the bass have no chance. This is akin to making hunting season year round, allowing guys to spotlight deer, and removing the take limit.

Keep up the good work Randy, as a senior fisherman I still remember learning to fish in a small pond in the field. I still feel that magic today when I hook a big smallmouth using my brain to find and catch them. Nothing is as fun as hunting Smallies and putting together a pattern based on daily and seasonal conditions. I always look at electronics as a tool to find depth and structure, not fish. To each his own but if I had to decide it would be no FFS in tournaments.

Randy, I have FFS on my boat. I'm 61 and I use it only for finding structure. So, don't get angry, BUT the same subject was also about sight fishing on bedding bass. Better sunglasses, fluorocarbon, plastic dyes, mapping systems, and really sonar I can see my line go down below the TM. All this was in your day. Was it banned then, No. Tell me you never sight fished. You would be lying. Also mapping, setting a wave point at each bedding bass you found. Sight fishing still used today, so what's the difference? See the bass, throw a lure until it takes it. Yes, I agree that it should not be used in derbies. But it's not going away. Better get use to it.

I will put this all in perspective and bust the move forward facing sonar. You can use it shallow but most guys are fishing the mid or deeper depths with more success. So basically that opens up the shallow anglers to a lot more opportunities to catch those fish them before because there’s not near as many guys fishing for those fish so these guys have to learn to adjust because it is an ever-changing sport. I mean look at Kyle Wiltjer, absolute specialist skipping and flipping an anything shallow. All he did was win angler of the year last year! It’s a sport, you either figure it out and stay in the game or you get bumped. That’s it!

I tried live scope the other day. I couldn't believe the amount of bedding fish I could detect in 4' or less from ten foot on the edge of lilly pads on lake Seminole. I went back at night with a spot light and verified the beds. It was amazing how accurate it was.

Randy I couldn’t agree more. This is a topic that BASS and others are going to have to address. A good example is MLB not allowing Aluminum baseball bats in the major leagues although the technology is much more advanced. It does way more harm than good.

Things are turning Randy. Just like in the dangerous video you could see it in their faces all the veteran pros. I also saw the video that you were talking about this morning. Frustration was on his face. I know for a fact that if they banned front-facing sonar tomorrow if you listen carefully you would hear a giant sigh of relief. Let's go !

I’m 71 years old, been fishing most of my life, my dad and fished out of a aluminum boat with a trolling motor on the back , he used a 6 foot paddle as a depth gauge, then we moved up to bigger boat and motor an newer electronics, now at 71 , I can’t afford the newer boats and all the electronics, fishing is supposed to be fun and relaxing . I watched the MLF in Alabama this weekend, the fisherman were watching their FFS to catch these big bags of fish !

Never thought the hunters would be so far ahead of the fishermen on this. Most states already prohibit any sort of live imaging of game animals by cameras, drones, etc. Fishermen need to follow their lead, at least if they wish to continue to be called "sport fishermen."

Agree! I've seen too many young anglers that don't respect the fish. Flipping 5lbers back into the water, slapping them on the belly, keeping them out of the water forever...etc. They just like catching, not the magic of fishing.

Another approach that might stop it is an assessment of the impact on the bass population. If determined to be negative then that would outweigh the money factor.
