I stopped fishing tournaments because of all this new technology. In my opinion it really ruined tournaments the way they used to be when I first started fishing them in the early 90s. I just don’t want to spend that kind of money to be able to compete in tournaments these days. Took the fun out of it for me. I have used livescope and had a ball with it and was very impressed with how it worked but I personally don’t agree with having it in tournaments.

Here is my opinion. First of all you refer to using FFS as cheating. There is nothing illegal about using FFS. No state, federal, local or professional bass fishing circuits have outlawed it. I dont fish for bass i fish for catfish. Everyone has theyre thing. I use the Live system along with Sonar to confirm catfish presence. I can detect movement of cats hugging the bottom and con confirm if its a cat or different type of fish because nothing swims like a cat. Upon finding my spot i flip the livescope off and start fishing. Its not a "cheater box" when used to find fish no differently than any sonar used regardless of size. The problem is the way guys use the system. If there was a rule that no rod can be in use when a livescope transducer is in the water this would correct your issues. Just my opinion. Live is a tool used to locate fish, not a tool to allow you to position your hook into the fishes mouth.

I remember when I called out TB for using livescope and then selling the baits they were using without mentioning the ffs unit. That was a dirty move. Their response was they don’t use “livescope”. They use ffs but not specifically livescope. Talk about shameful lack of integrity they cried at me then immediately did a video where they didn’t use ffs and everyone in the comments was happy for that video. But I unsigned them because they are strictly about money. It’s all a lie. They are the worst because Tim works for fish and game and for him and Matt to be so wrapped up in themselves and to try and sneak ffs into videos while saying they have “no opinion” was too much of a cowards move

Sounds like they've struck a blow for 'non extremitism' and plain old common sense. As insiders have been reporting for the last year, FFS is never going away, never. So in a true demonstration of actual leadership, they took the measured approach so that we can continue to enjoy the advances in technology which make our sport more enjoyable every years while staying within some reasonable boundaries on the ' pro ' side for those who just like to watch more than participate. I for one applaud what they are about to do since the extreme approach preached by some is never a good thing. Always keep looking forward and advancing and never look back if you really want to revert back to 'simpler times' I encourage you to pack up and move to either Alaska or Wyoming where you can easily unplug from our technological society.

Boy, I just made a comment on a channel that worships live scope. All I said was that live scope is not fishing, it's catching and that anglers who use live scope are taking a shortcut and lack experience, skill and patience. What if it was just putting the FFS on a timer. Maybe you get an hour of FFS for each tournament day. If you go over you're DQ'd. Make some sort of equalizer that makes other techniques more viable to win so there is a mix of techniques winning in the field and you can't just rely on one.

I hear this claim a lot but haven’t seen actual evidence of it, i.e balance sheets, testimony from either the companies or tournament bodies, etc.

Just need to have a tournament series for each. One series anglers can use all the advanced electronics and one series with limited electronics. That way anglers can choose which series they want to participate in each season.

I've got a couple of things here. First of all, I do understand your point, but I disagree, and I think there are flaws in your argument. I haven't seen any evidence of declining lure sales among the majority of lure companies. Anglers still fish conventionally and use conventional lures, whether they have FFS or not. Most of the fishing community does not have FFS and still fish conventionally, so sales should still be on par with what they typically are. Also, I'm not 100% positive of this, but I don't think lure companies can compete with the profit margins of electronic companies, not even if they all band together. Even if FFS did not exist lure companies still would make near the profit of electronic companies because profit margins on lures are so slim. So lure companies can't compete with electronic companies when sponsoring major tournament organizations. New technology emerges all the time and changes the way we do things. It is our job to learn it and utilize it to our advantage. Should their be limitations on FFS? Yes, that is a valid argument, but instead of griping about it and trying to completely ban something mostly because you're upset about it not being much of an advantage for the style of fishing you like to do, or you can't learn it or figure it out as quickly as others is not a good argument. No, nobody comes out and admits that is the reason they want it banned. They try to come up with any argument they can, no matter how ridiculous those arguments may be, but deep down, that is the root cause in why people feel the way they do about it.

I agree that FFS I'd greatly affecting bass fishing. Maybe there should be a compromise. FFS is only allowed during practice. Not allowed during actual tournament.

You said this change is not even a 1/2 measure, yet they may limit FF (?) in 1/2 of the tournaments, which is exactly a 1/2 measure... You most always look at their back when watching a bass angler in a tournament on TV - regardless of Forward Facing, so no reason to gripe about it. And if lure selection was to be reduced because they don't catch fish as well as others - that forward facing seems to be proving, is a good thing for the finances of the angler, but clearly not as good for the manufactures that produce lures that attract the angler more than the fish. And beating on the young anglers is childish to say the least, grow up in that respect as it's not a good look for anyone. I respect your opinion Randy, and this is mine. I've said all along, since the very first argument came about Forward Facing, that it's up to the lake and river management that should have the final say on its use. Not you, Not me, but the people who know what's going on in their particular body of water, and the big tournament directors will fall in line over fact based studies. Note, when have you ever seen large mouth being caught on a top water bait in 70' of water in the middle of nowhere! Awesome, and just as fun, in not funner, then catching them on a jig held tight to a tree! It's all good, even when it's bad in someone else's opinion and thoughts, that's what makes us individuals.

well im hoping if they choose one of those two, they go with the split tournaments. Some with, some without. Then you'll be able to compare side by side viewer ratings, as well as who can actually catch fish without their electronic life support.

Randy I fish little tournaments like 10 to 15 boats on small lakes and small pay outs and people have the nerve to use live scopes. It’s a huge problem more so for small tournaments. I’ve won 3 This year First and Big Bass and it’s very good feeling when I have the most basic fish finder for depth winning against guys with expensive set ups

he problem with bait companies trying to out give electroncis wont work because you have 5000.00 for one setup and 1000.00 worth of baits. I know there is more money in boats of baits but the amount used is a lot less than is spent on electronics.

My idea also. I better patent it 1st. I'm calling it the "Network Minnow". Put your trolling motor on high and when the next generation FFS locates and locks into a bass (which the next FFS can determine species and size) you just drop your line over the side of the boat and your "Network Minnow" will swim to the fish it has locked into on your FFS. An extra feature so you can put fish in the frying pan is, If it doesn't bite, hit the remote shock button and go grab the fish when it floats to the top! Fishing needs to be easier. Advanced technology is fantastic for our fisheries! Keep setting the example Bassmasters!

Here's an idea! Have some lakes that do not allow tournaments of ANY KIND WHATSOEVER and have specified lakes just for tournaments! Non tournament FISHERMEN can choose to fish either one if they want to deal with the BS, but at least there will be SOME lakes where the fish are not not hammered every weekend! (Not to mention practice) There are soooo many local tournaments now that the fish are soooo pressured; how do you teach a six year old without FFS? A) they lose interest if they don't catch any fish all day because you are teaching them fishing traditional methods and the bass have been hammered and B) they are raised with video games so at least they can SEE a fish for fun. The sheer volume of tournaments is what is killing fun fishing, not just the pressure on the fish but the rudeness of many tournament "ANGLERS" and the volume of boats at the docks and on the water, for what? How many of these "ANGLERS" are actually making money in these tournaments, seriously. This hobby is way too expensive for what you win, even f you are a great "ANGLER". Competing for space on the lake is now way more work than fun for non tournament FISHERMEN. It's really too bad, EGO's have destroyed fishing not FFS

I have asked this question on numerous other channels in the discussion of FFS and nobody has answered. When those small cameras came out people used them to find fish but they were banned from being used during tournaments (Aqua views)...because it was said the cameras were too much of am advantage and they were in real time...well isn't that the advantage of FFS...that's its in real time?...I mean what's the difference?

Trey McKinney is my neighbor(his parents and my parents are long time friends). The kid was an average fisher until FFS became a thing, then he's suddenly an elite. FFS took away most of the skill in the sport, now its just rich kids running around looking at a monitor. I would smoke him at any lake, even our home lake if he didnt have FFS. Bass fishing as became a joke.

I think they should just say, you can use it to find fish when you get to a spot....but you have to turn it off before you cast. Then, you can't use it anymore on that spot.

I do agree with limiting the size or number of screens and I’m ok with limiting to one FFS transducer, but I done with banning them altogether, the same was said when side scan came out and every other technology, if they ban FFS them ban all sonar and really level the field! Just my opinion and I don’t have FFS and I’m older but I feel the older guy that are not dominating like they used to are the lowest voices against FFS because they don’t understand the technology as good as the you kids, you said it in your video ( the Nintendo controller fishermen or something like that)

I always thought that live scope should be used in practice but not be used in a tournament and if you do use them in a tournament, you have only one transducer on the boat in the front and you should also be only be aloud to have 2 screens one at the console and one in the front by the trolling motor.

The only people buying electronics are people with boats whereas everyone from pond hoppers to elite series anglers buys lures. All they have to do is start pulling their money out of tournaments and watch how fast FFS goes away

@@sayEDBTZ Will never happen. They're not giving up the money now as a charity donation. They are offering up the money now because they see the value in the advertisement and will continue to do so as long as professional fishing has a following, FFS or not. FFS may be limited at some point but not because of the lure manufacturers...IMO. The lure manufactures will adapt to the market and if FFS is what's shaping it, then so be it. Personally I don't even give a crap. I just fun fish any more with my kids and enjoy life on the water...WITH and without FFS. 😉

I have heard from a couple of sources that half of the BPT events will be non FFS, meaning can't use it. I'm not in favor of tourneys using it, but it's not practical to limit it's use to DNR folks as there is way too much R&D invested for such a limited amount of returned revenue.
