A few years ago I looked to Nick as my favourite serve style to copy but I hadn’t properly developed my toss position and loading, so overall my serve motion felt fun but was really inconsistent. I was too focused on the cool rocking motion and pulling my leg up. I’m not ‘fast twitch muscle’ quick enough for the Krygios style. For the past two years I’ve focused on simple platform stance motions with less moving parts like Raonic and 2020’s Djokovic, and focused on my toss and swing path. My serve is much better now.

I did something similar on my serve, adjusting my motion after a phisical problem. Low toss, pinpont stance and fast motion. It worked ok for the first serve, mainly flat or with little slice, but I was never able to develop a decent topspin for the second serve. Like if there was no time or space for a proper swing...🤔

Sees a very measured and sensible explanation for why I should NOT try to serve like Kyrgios. Next day: Tries to serve likes Kyrgios even more. What's wrong with me?

Nothing. But i dont advice you to copy anything. you should copy most important parts of his serve, that i suited for you. For example i cant copy his wrist motion, that he uses to delay his right arm
@cyberjonesyКүн бұрын
It takes an extremely consistent toss to be able to serve so fast without letting the ball rise. The impact point has to be at the same place every single time, which requires, I would say, an inhumane amount of skill. Nick Kyrgios is an alien, there you have it, I said it first.

I have spent so much time trying to copy his serve now its pretty much natural for me

I recently went from Dolgopolv style to Kyrgios'. Pinpoint serve is less heavy on my low back and shoulder, more efficient in transfer the weight to the ball, and im heavy btw (90kg/198lbs)
@thebigmonstaandy66442 күн бұрын
Sama for me. I had knee problems using Dolgopolov style. Thats why i change to Kyrgios.

Great call on the similarly with Goran. Perricard, who now seems to have the best serve in tennis, has this same technique also it seems.

2 of the best servers of all time and potentially a third and we're not going to learn from them and use what we can? wtff??? If you're an athlete and have some flexibility, I'd say these models are easy to emulate and reproduce. If you're a club hack that has little to no athleticism? Stick with the frying pan serve and don't waste your time with lessons.

If it works for him or to anyone else I don't see anything wrong with that serve.

This is actually 90% my serve. Only thing I don’t do is raise my toe on my front foot. Works well for me. Excellent angles, consistency, spins and power

I always say that if you watch Kyrgios serve and are trying to pick up anything just watch what he does above his hips cause everything happening below that is unique to him completely

Kyrios serve is very similar to Dr. Ivo’s serve (karlovic).

My Philosophy - Don’t copy anything ! What you come up with on your own will be as good ! Learn the basics,, the body mechanics fundamentals; and from there, develop it ! And make it your own invention ! Rely on your own wits and your own instincts and insights! You can do it if you’re willing to work hard at it ! Thousands upon thousands of practice hours is required!

I like to throw the ball very far inside the baseline like Nick Kyrgios ...So my left hand isn't as stretched as those with a toss closer to baseline. I notice Nick Kyrgios' left arm isn't very vertical as well...

The best part of his serve is his ultra consistent toss and his explosiveness. His footwork would be hard to copy. Even compared to other players he has a great serve. He can easily win a slam but his can't control his emotions.
@monstertrucktennisКүн бұрын
I think the beauty of a low toss and a rhythmic motion is that he's placing the ball into a consistent swing path and the ball travels such a short distance from when it leaves his hand to contact. Surely something even a club hack should try to emulate because of how easy it is.
