Inuyasha, along with its sequel series, Hanyo No Yashahime delivered some of the best moments in classic and modern anime, and I'm glad I was able to share the experience with all of you. I grew up in an abusive home with my stepfather and I used to stay up late when everyone was asleep to catch Inuyasha on adult swim and it became my own pocket of solace. Then when I moved to Maine with my dad during high school we would always stay up to watch the new episodes together on Saturdays. It became an icon for me and even to this day when I watch it late at night or during hard times, I always feel safe.

Oddly enough, same here, except I watched it alone. Idk if it was the same for you, but it was one of the shows back then that had the right amount of darkness to make it relatable and comforting to that period of time.

I will never get over how wholesome and adorable Rin's introduction is. She finds a wounded person in the forest and tries to share what little food she has with him. When the person says he has no need for human food, she does her best to try and find him... demon food. Frogs and insects, that sort.

Watching Yashahime, it really feels like a dysfunctional D&D campaign more than Inuyasha ever did. They keep squabbling, refusing to bite at quest hooks, and splitting the party, and you can imagine the DM trying to contrive a way to get things back on track.

Yes! This is it exactly. It felt just like a DnD campaign. As a friend once pointed out; you've got the player who thinks being edgey is cool and makes them some how a better player then everyone else. The one who picked a concept (bounty hunter) and falls back on it as a motivation as needed and is just silly the rest of the time. And then the one who went and made a complex backstory tying them to the other characters but edgy is too busy being edgy and silly is too busy being silly

I suppose if Yashahime has a slower and more character focused pace, it would be better. The Yashahime manga is quite different having 2 of the main characters raised together in Kaede's village. Both the manga and anime of Yashahime did something interesting on their own.

I enjoyed Yashahime too if only just because it was new content from one of my first anime. I definitely would love to see an InuYasha remake as well. I’m not sure what the reception of the series would be in the 2020s. With some of the specific 2000s anime traits it has. Though, a new coat of paint would help preserve Rumiko’s work and create new fans. I think the old one has just aged a lot. Even as a diehard fan it’s not as bright as it used to be back then. The 4:3 screen kills me. Just minor stuff that with a remake would fix. I do think fans might enjoy it. It’s basically an isekai, but because it came out then it might have differences that feel just new enough to help isekai not feel so stale. Then I don’t remember much nudity/ fanservice in the series aside from the really tame Ep.1 with Mistress Centipede and Miroku aside. Though even with Miroku, I don’t remember much nudity. He just likes to admire the women in the series, but no excessive nudity is present. Even when a rare scene comes up, it’s closer to Spice & Wolf ep1 than anything else. It’s pretty tame compared to other series. I remember liking the series back then for partly that reason. It might pass the modern fan’s aversion to fanservice or (accepting modern anime still has fanservice even in the most popular shows).

I cannot begin to describe how obsessed I was with inuyasha growing up. From like 3rd grade to 8th/9th that was my thing. I’d get a tape and record the episode on adult swim. I drew tons of fan art, bought the cards, the video games, magazine, and a coloring book. I also came to sneak preview for the 3rd movie. It was a big bus in front of a Walmart where they were gonna show the first couple minutes of the movie in the bus. I was probably 12, 13 among a bunch of adults in their 20-30s with my mom. But it was so worth it. Watching that opening with other fans is such a rush. I was psyched when final act came out. And stunned when yashahime came out. I can’t tell you how crazy invested I was in the love triangle and would hate whenever Kikyo came up around inuyasha. Now it’s more of indifference, but before, it was classic fangirl hate.

The whole show is all about learning to accept what you are and being understanding to others. Learning to let go of pride and develop mercy within self. Learning not to give up. Learning to move on. Learning to be true to yourself. Learning what it is to be alive. Learning to admit your sins and guilt. The list go on. All the side characters, villains and inuyasha party have their own lessons and themes to learn and master. The show explore a wide variety of life themes in life itself.

Rurouni Kenshin was the first I watched and I simultaneously watched Inuyasha due to seeing the first OP theme. Then I was also exposed to Ranma. I watched all of them at the same time back and forth with my friend group during the time.

Kagome and Inuyasha's developing relationship into love really stands out to me because it's the best instance of an enemies-to-lovers relationship I've seen in an anime, apart from Toradora. Usually enemies-to-lovers relationships in anime boil down to the girl beating the shit out of her love interest until she comes to terms with the fact that she likes him. The relationships are heavily weighed one side or another, and the guy usually just stumbles into the relationship without it ever being shown his own feelings toward her. In Inuyasha, it was really fun to see Inuyasha and Kagome work out their differences and slowly become more cohesive as a team, confiding in each other more and more as their feelings grow. While it has its flaws, the love story's the best part of Inuyasha IMO.

I have such a vivid memory of the first time I ever watched this show. I was at a sleepover, staying up the latest I ever had, and my friend turned on adult swim. It was the Goshinki episode. I remember being terrified of the violence, but there was something so compelling about Kagome and Inuyasha’s relationship and the dynamic the whole group had. Even though the show scared me a little bit, I kept coming back to it and now it feels like such a pivotal part of my development. I love this show.❤️

InuYasha is not just the greatest anime of all time, its one of the greatest written television series of all time. Rumiko Takahashi is the JRR Tolkien of Japan, making InuYasha the Lord Of The Rings of anime. The music is one of its most impactful, what do you expect from the apprentice of Akira Ifukube (the man who created the theme to Godzilla) I've covered the first 5 seasons and 2 films and currently working on a review of the 3rd film. The series inspired me into deeper writing which it's format and structure I do on my own show. This is an excellent Retrospective.

One of the main things that pissed me off about Kikyo even when watching the series all the way through for the first time during lockdown was that even after she learned the truth about the misunderstanding between her and Inuyasha, she _still_ insisted on holding onto that anger. Like, I get it, she was basically an angry spirit with her last resentful thought imprinted on her mind, but that didn’t make every time she was needlessly petty and spiteful towards Kagome any less annoying. I just found myself wishing most of the time “someone please put this poor zombie out of her misery.” Maybe I’d appreciate her more after a second viewing of the series, but boy was it hard for me to like her the first time around.

The author wanted to made her creations flawed and human. It take time for all the characters in inuyasha to either let go or develop. Kikyo is just one of them in it and in her case she did have alot of anger and regrets to release as well as coming to terms with new feelings that she have never experienced when she was alive. But she came through in the middle part of the story and her former kind nature returned back to her.

Miroku was my favorite character. I actually wanted to give him a baby LOL. Despite his lecherousness, he was a man who knew he was going to die. More so than a normal human. A literal ticking time bomb in his hand. Mortality has always been a weak point for me. I related to miroku, and still do. The ever looming concept of death, the idea of leaving my problems behind in my children. I could only imagine the type of person I'd be if I had the physical part of his curse. RIP Kirby morrow. 🙏

Inuyasha was just a really special anime/manga. It wasn't the *first* anime I ever watched, since I'd seen stuff from Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon as a kid, but it's the first *real* anime I watched, if you catch my meaning. My introduction to the series was being a 7-year old kid staying the night at my cousin's house (who is the same age as me) and seeing the 3rd movie. I couldn't look away from the screen, and when I got home the next day I told my dad and mom about it and my dad hit up a friend of his from work who knew how to torrent movies and tv shows (which was kind of a big deal on the early 2000s before streaming services were really a thing) and got the whole first season for us to watch together. My brother and I and our older sister were hooked, and my parents both liked the show enough to watch it with us.

Wow, that tattoo is awesome. That was the point you earned my sub, not even 10 minutes into what I am pretty sure is the first video of yours that I've seen. But, for a long while (not quite going all the way back to the almost 20 YEARS it's been since I first became acquainted with and a fan of Inuyasha, but at least since I learned that it's probably not even the most popular or impactful work that Rumiko Takahashi created, at least not in Japan) I've been curious about the topic that comprises the content of this video, so I also wanna thank you for the effort and time you doubtless put in to make something that (presumably, I am only 10 minutes in, haha) is comprehensive af. I really do appreciate it when I find something that answers questions I have held for awhile without being sure of how to find the answers. You rock

I loved every minute of your video and it truly brought me back to the time I use to stay up late watching this in middle school. I felt like Inuyasha to me, was my first “mature” anime and I felt so cool watching it. The story literally had everything for everyone so it was definitely a relatable show. I discovered you while starting Yashahime and fell off, but with you catching us up it definitely helped a lot!!! Thankyou so much again and continue being great with these vids!

Love this!!! I stared my Rumiko Takahashi journey with Ranma in 10th grade and I may have finished Maison Ikkoku, Mermaid Saga, and Urusei Yatsura by the time I finally got around to Inuyasha. Despite Ranma being perhaps my favorite series ever, I have trouble seeing Inuyasha in the same light. I really do like Inuyasha and can appreciate what it does that's completely fresh to Rumiko Takahashi's cataloge. But I think found myself constantly comparing it to her early work and getting hung up on minor nitpicks. So it was great getting a fresh perspective on this series. I think if I were to rereaad the series knowing what I know now my reaction would be way different. I know it's too soon for a retrospective but I'd love to see someone discuss Mao like this even while it's still running.

I love the entire Inuyasha anime as a whole and personally i love all the characters and story and i always find haters of inuyasha's character but to me thats absurd, because to me its like, how would you feel if you fell in love and you were 'betrayed' by your significant other and forced into a 50 year sleep only to be woken up by a girl/boy who looks like your significant other and you see them being revived right in front of you and your forced to hear them rant about " 'Why did you betray me', 'Remember when you told me that you loved me', 'you tricked me all those years ago... i thought you loved me', 'I hate you!!' " and your forced into a position where you need to choose which to be with and later on you find out that you both were forced to hurt, hate and fight eachother and all this was when you would find out that someone was pulling the string from behind the scenes and disguised themselves as you for your significant other to hate and your significant other for you to hate.and because of this your the cause of one of the ones you loved death. Now obvious i feel like kikyo's death caused inuyasha lots of despair and even more hatred twords naraku. Disclaimer : i'm not saying i hate inuyasha haters but i'm just saying that they don't understand inuyasha's position in the anime/manga because for me its like you don't understand his feelings

Inuyasha was my first anime. I was secluded from pop culture until I was an adult, but I binged the entire series from start to end of the Final Act in two weeks in 2012 (on youtube no less, I didn't understand the other sites yet, lol) and immediately turned around and watched it all again. I then found fanfiction (if anyone wants some bomb recs on good Inu FF or wants to see if we know any in common, please hit me up, I want people to talk to Inuyasha content about!). Long story short, this anime is so special to me. I love your analysis, even to the point of we can agree to disagree about some things, like Shippo. But I also love getting this perspective from you, someone who watched it as a child and as an adult. I watched this show only from 18 years on. I was very emotionally and culturally stunted due to my upbringing, but that's not the same as seeing something through the eyes of a child and then again as an adult. I do see the complexities of the relationship between Inu and Kikyo now, and can appreciate some of it. But I am def still someone who was yelling for her to just stay dead already. Her final scene was really well done though, and like you pointed out, Inu did need to come to some terms with her, and it offered that closure for both of them, which was very lovely. I'm currently only about 45 min in, and I'll be coming back to finish another day, but I will probably be binging all your content on anything Inuyasha. Also, I LOVED the discussion about Takahashi san and Wada san. When I found out that Inuyasha was written by a woman, and how popular and well recieved it was, I was overjoyed. And all of the Inuyasha music is something that sooths and heals me. It takes me to my happiest place, and I am so happy to see you spend time discussing the instruments and the pieces. You have researched and done due respect to this masterpiece, and I love it. Thank you!
