Naraku was a strong antagonist, not exactly cause of his demonic nature, but due to him being a master manipulator. The dude knows how to spin a tale. Also his voice actor made his character more compelling.

My husband and I love Naraku as a villain because of his character’s darkness and complexity. The Faustian aspect-that “in return, bestow me with your mobility and strength” scene always gives us chills. The way he knows how to inflict pain on others emotionally is so evil. He’s definitely Machiavellian. ⭐️

To think at the end Naraku.. had a path but not a destination. That pretty good a villain with no end goal. Naraku didn’t even wanna watch the world burn. Only thing he knew was to manipulate and betray, he even betray his own desires of wanting Kikyo. He even betray myself in ordered to protect the jewel. Naraku was a very unique villian.
@philzh79733 жыл бұрын
Naraku slowly but surely became my favorite character in a show where I loved all the characters. As evil as he was, in the end, I was able to understand him and could relate to what he wanted. Just like Kagome and Kikyo, he wanted to be his own person away from Onigumo. He wanted to destroy Kikyo because she was his weakness, but all he really wanted was her love. And unlike Kagome, Naraku really was Onigumo deep down. Naraku was such an amazing villain but my heart was breaking by those last few episodes. And then in the final episode, I actually cried when Kagome's wish purified him. He certainly didn't deserve it but I thought it was perfect that Kagome, Kikyo's reincarnation, inadvertently saved Naraku. "I feel so warm. So this is how it feels to be a peace." Just. Wow.

@oliviaviannaii3585 Жыл бұрын
Naraku is a great villain for three main aspects: he is extremely cruel, resourceful and intelligent, he is a character full of symbolism and he is also an extremely tragic character, this composition makes him perfect in my perception. But of all these aspects, without a doubt, the tragic is the most interesting. Naraku in the end was basically Onigumo's reincarnation, and Naraku's true heart was Onigumo's heart. Therefore, Naraku's true desire has always been the same as Onigumo's, Kikyo's heart, Kikyo's love, to be loved by Kikyo. The big reason behind Naraku's actions was also Onigumo's pain, seeing himself as the murderer of the person he loved the most, so he played everyone against each other and encouraged them to kill each other, as an unconscious way of not feeling alone in his pain and a dark manifestation of his trauma. Unfortunately, in his eagerness to separate himself from his predecessor and claim his own identity, his own desires and his own heart, Naraku did not notice any of this and let himself be involved in the Jewel's plot, which cursed him and threw him against Kikyo in the moment he was born. Only when Kagome questions him about his true desire does he finally understand everything that happened, but it was too late. My biggest wish was a different ending for him and Kikyo, I wanted him to have the chance to find her and explain to her everything that happened, that he never really hated her and that deep down he always felt guilt and regret for her death, who couldn't bear the burden of being her killer. I wish he could declare his love for her, I wish he could have done something beneficial for her, for both of them.
@sirenfang11793 жыл бұрын
in a way the shikon jewel acts similarly to the one ring in lotr - a mind with an agenda of its own but subtle enough to never truly Be a concrete presence. just a lot of concentrated, tainted magic.
@kennethshaw26193 жыл бұрын
You nailed that one on the head!
@amyra81593 жыл бұрын
But there is a difference, shikon jewel is both good and evil, like yinyang balance.....it can really be useful if it is in the hands of a good and capable person, in short, the heart of the owner of shikon decides the outcome. whereas one ring is pure evil, it just creates a delusion of being something precious to fight for,but in reality it's only job is to corrupt the mind of the bearer to benefit it's real owner, i.e, Sauron.
@PyanY3 жыл бұрын
@@amyra8159 same with the shikon jewel. No matter how capable the user is, they will eventually fall victim to the jewel. Like the one ring, the jewel is able to tempt others to come after it. This eventually will tire out the user. Once the user is weakened, the jewel will overcome them. This almost happened to kikyo herself. Once with the jewel, demons stormed at her. She exceptional, and able to hold them off until the jewel tempted onigumo and inuyasha, the two men that would seal her fate. After the drama, Once she sealed inuyasha away, she had two choices, die or use the jewel to restore herself. Of course if she used the jewel to restore herself, she might have lived, but she no longer would have been fit to purify the jewel( as this act would mean she betrayed inuyasha as well). She probably would become corrupted like tsubaki and then eventually killed by naraku. Kikyo however instinctively chose death, out of her pure love for inuyasha even though at this point she still believed inuyasha betrayed her. Choosing to die was "the right wish" for her and because of that the jewel was almost purified if not for kikyo's only feeling of attachment, which was her "desire to be with inuyasha". It says alot about human nature and about making decisions that are not based on insecurities and doubt. The "right wish" needed to purify the jewel seems to be reflected in that.

Just finished watching the last episode of the final arc... and what a revelation at the end! Naraku is one of the best villains in anime. Despicable and irredeemable to the end, but also conplex and with an interesting backstory. One thing that was really interesting was the parallel that inuyasha drew between himself and Naraku at the end. Both of them are half demons, but where inuyasha favored his human heart, Naraku despised it. Inuyasha ultimately learned to accept both his demonic strenght and human compassion and was ultimately victorious. Naraku, however, was always at war within himself, though he tried to show a confident pose to others. He went to unimaginable lengths to get rid of Onigamu, but in the end, he couldn't completely destroy him, only bury him deep inside, and that in the end, didnt do him any favors. Great anime and great video 💯👌
@iheartbeingalive22743 жыл бұрын
I love the spirituality behind Inuyasha. The anime displays an amazing example of yin and yang, Naraku being almost the devil himself, and Kikyo/Kagome the warriors of love and light. Duality: male and female (masculine and feminine) good and evil, dark and light, in constant battle yet interdependent.
@kennethshaw26193 жыл бұрын
You know, I have watched a lot of retrospectives and analysis on Inuyasha. But it is this video that truly reminded me of why I loved Inuyasha so much. It is all about Naraku, he is the catalyst, he is everything that makes the show what it was. Without him, no amount of character development, action, or romance could have made this show as grand, epic, and memorable. Great video 👌

Having been puppeteered by abusive parents who isolated me as a child where I learned to manipulate them to survive and I had to undergo a lot of therapy to learn how to interact with others for the first time without utilizing that skill anymore as a suicidal teen, (because you don't really know how to turn it off when you haven't been taught that) and also never having been loved as they were all I knew, I have related a lot to Naraku. He gave me a lot of solace and personal representation, even if it was tragic due to trauma. Thankfully the ending of my own story is better, and I am not a top 10 anime villain, but he will forever remain in my heart as a character that made me feel a little less lost and more understood when I was younger. 💜🕷

In the final battle, it becomes clear what he really desired. When he dies, he says that the jewel has denied him his own wish, namely to be with Kikyou. The Jewel forced him to do all of these because his own darkness was not dark enough to darken the jewel. And the jewel wanted to be dark because otherwise it could not take narakus and kagomes soul to exist for eternety. Every sentient being wants to live, so the jewel too. It's actually a normal intention. Just the way it wanted to fulfill it was evil.

I absolutely do not have any sympathy for onigumo, I had dealt with a stalker irl during the time Inuyasha first went live and the obsession with kikyo made me mad that they romanticized it (-。-; I do really like the story of him & naraku though, they were the Littlefingers to me before I started reading A Song of Ice & Fire.

Well, imagine being incapacitated for rest of your life. Onigumo wouldn't have had a chance to get up on his feet in time before Inuyasha would've began to romance Kikyo. I don't think he would've normally done anything at all to make his move on Kikyo. His obsession level seemed in somewhere near "I will take her as my wife right off!" instead of "I will watch her every move."
@annejackielee3 жыл бұрын
@@peagames2002 umm you do know that Onigumo was an evil bandit before he became incapacitated right? He became incapacitated because he wanted to take over an army of bandits and sent the leader to kill Kikyo, knowing that Inuyasha was protecting her, and hoping Inuyasha would kill the leader. The leader survived and got his revenge by trapping Onigumo in a fire. THENNNNNN he became Incapacitated yada yada yada. He is is no way a pitiful character. He's just evil.
@peagames20023 жыл бұрын
@@annejackielee I do know that, but still feel slight pity. He had enough of karma justified on him to be bedridden without escape for a long time. That's up to you what you think of him.

Naraku on some level reminds me of Sauron. But like, with Japanese mythological influence instead of the combination of Nordic and christian ideas that Tolkien used. Like, he's a similar character archetype you know? The sort that's powerful and dangerous almost beyond measure, but also like, fearful and manipulative. Actually Perhaps it would be better to compare him to Melkor, who also didn't really have a plan for if he won and was just trying to destroy everything out of spite.

Well, people here say that they know this already, but it is kind of pleasure to hear it from different people, mostly because it shows that people still are interested in the series. also I guess many fans here are people who just watched "Inuyasha", because it was on tV and never saw complete story (not me, in my country manga and anime are still considered witchcraft, no1 would put Inu on TV, you had to hunt for the manga....and they they stopped releasing it and no1 could pick it up, because of some laws etc. How could they!). Heck, many people do even know Final Act came out ! But Axel, won't you give us more of your own opinions and comments ?! >_> You're hard Inuyasha fan, but we barely hear what you really think. You know, it really makes you wonder what messed up series of events lead to Onigumo becoming the sick bastard he was. He had desire to be loved by the purest person he'd ever met, despite being a man who was as depraved as they come. Was it just predatory? Or was it his twisted way of crying for help?

You make Naraku sound compelling. It is unbelievable how this he drew the show out so long with so much that had little to do with his cd
@AxelBeats Жыл бұрын
Honestly i think a lot of people feel this way because of how the filler slowed the show down. Around season 3-5 it's brutal and we could have had a 120 episode show rather than nearly 200.

@@AxelBeats seriously. As much a I loved Inuyasha I stopped watching. So I had no idea what happened. Last part I saw was Naraku getting Slaughtered by Sesshomaru and that's it. I was just like. I'm sure they'll kill him... Eventually

Naraku is a brilliant antagonist. Its so easy to hate him bc he always seems like he's playing 4 dimensional chess and bc his intellect is matched only by his ruthlessness and cowardice. His deceit is even more toxic than the miasma flowing through his veins.
