“Invaders...” Putin Vows Action Against NATO Troops In Ukraine | France Joining War "Acceptable"

Article 5 of the NATO* treaty won’t be triggered if Russia attacks any member's troops deployed to Ukraine, DPA reported, citing a German parliament expert group report. Reflecting the principle of collective defence all NATO members, Article 5 says an armed attack against one or more states shall be considered an attack against all. The expert report also assesses the possible consequences of France’s plans to send troops to Ukraine, however, it has not been published yet. The USSR sent Soviet fighter pilots to fight in the Korean War in 1950 (although the MiG-15 jets were painted with North Korean Air Force markings). The Russian MiGs operated from airfields in China, so that the UN air forces would not bomb them on the ground. The USSR also sent a total of 3,500 combat troops (mainly Spetznaz special forces) and 7,500 military advisors to North Vietnam during the 10 year Vietnam War. The Spetznaz served as snipers and carried out commando operations against the US, while the military advisors set up and helped operate the North Vietnamese air defence system, including firing missiles at US aircraft. (Many of the Soviet personnel who served in Vietnam were ethnic Ukrainians.)

It's crazy and highly irresponsible to try to escalate this war instead of focusing on a negotiated outcome that results in a lasting peace. Apparently, some Western leaders have not learned anything in two years of conflict with Russia and can't accept the fact that their slogan 'Putin cannot be allowed to win' is just an empty phrase. A Russian victory is a real possibility, not that it is a desirable one, but it is a realistic military outcome. Getting NATO troops involved would not change this outcome, but it could escalate the war to the point where it becomes an open war between Russia and NATO, where millions could die. Not because an attack on NATO troops in Ukraine would lead to the enforcement of Article 5, but because it would create a scenario where Putin would have no choice other than directly attacking the countries making war on Russia by sending their troops to fight in Ukraine. In my opinion, a diplomatic process that leads to a ceasefire and a permanent peace is an absolute necessity at this point. As time goes by and Ukraine gets progressively weaker, the terms that it would have to accept would definitely be harsher than a compromise reached now. It just doesn't make sense to keep fighting if the political will to back Ukraine is not there, especially in the US. Let's keep in mind that Putin is a rational man, but his enemies are making irrational decisions that may force him to do things that might spell the doom of Mankind. As the world marks the end of Holy Week and the beginning of Easter, it is especially important for everyone to reflect upon the importance of working towards peace in order to prevent the world from spinning into a spiral of violence and death.

SO, if Macron orders troops to fight in Ukraine and they come to grief they will have died or been maimed for the ego of Macron. Macron is president of France and may not state that NATO troops might fight for Zelenskyy but some French troops could if they obeyed Macron's orders. The French parliament would oppose this and so could senior commanders. A small consequence would be that Macron would have to step down as president. This can happen quickly under French law.

So if France, let's say, were to deploy troops to Ukraine on a strictly national basis, without NATO approval, in terms of NATO Article 5, Russia could then not only destroy French troops and weapons in Ukraine -- but also engage French naval vessels on the high seas, and/or strike targets inside France or any of its overseas territories with total impunity from a NATO legal framework perspective. It would simply be a conflict between Russia and France. If any other nation or nations decided to assist France, they would be doing so strictly on an identical basis.

I mean this report is correct. It would not trigger artical 5 if westen troops in ukraine were attacked and killed, it is only a attack on the actual countrys in the alliance that would trigger it. We formed NATO and made up the rules of warfare, we desvised The Geneva Convention. Which in itself covers all policies and we abide by it all. Unfortunately Russia don't follow these rules so they can break them whenever they wish. All this puts into perspective the huge disadvantage we are in whenever we enter into conflict with these fascists!

1) NATO was formed as a military alliance to stop the expansion of communism orchestrated by the then Soviet Union 2) If NATO is dismissed, EU will have peace except for USA changing regimes using it's CIA terrorists 3) NATO is a threat to Putin because NATO rejected the idea of Russia joining in it (when it expressed interest) while also advancing right on to Russia's borders such as Georgia and Ukraine. Since NATO countries are expected to allow US to build military bases, USA can easily invade Russia from multiple directions but Russia cannot do the same to USA being so far away. I would say Putin was a fool to have let NATO expand this much in the first place.

Technically speaking, France and Russia are already fighting over influence on the old French colonies in Africa. At least Russian influence is strong over there. Macron sounds like he finally realized what's happening but I am not convinced he knows what he's doing by sending a "handful" of troops. Maybe he's hoping for support and that other countries followed.

@@timonsolus possibly but most Russian's I know and I know many may respect Peter the great but don't like him where as they do like Putin and voted for him in overwhelming numbers supervised by international observer s despite USA not liking the outcome and complaining about the result the west forgets what democracy means and is all about, it means you can vote for what you want and like as opposed to what the ruling class and the media they control tell you. Seems Russia having a disobedient population have voted in their own interests despite the Washington post, New York times, Guardian and Telegraph plus the BBC and CNN and all their masters in the west explaining endlessly that they're not living in a democracy if they vote for Putin. Regardless Putin I believe wouldn't like the Peter the great analogy whereas Macron would be flattered with the Napoleon comparison. I doubt Macron is well respected in France and in fact I know he isn't as a fact. I guess the difference between fantasy and fact is France has been ruined by Macron who serves himself and has destroyed it's economy and prestige in the world where as Putin has done the reverse for Russia. France is a third rate power under Macron just as Britain has been under low achieving third rate politicians of low intelligence for the last 40 years. Both declining has been power's little dog's that bark a lot but never bite running behind their USA master's on their collar's and leashes dreaming of being rottweilers when they are just corkies and french poddles. Putin is a world historic figure Macron a manager of cheese shop on the Mediterranean as Britain is a fish and chips shop on the dismal grey North sea. Yes Macron can dream of being Napoleon but he's an average underachieving person not important on the world stage.
