Don Siegel, who would later in his life become very famous for various movies starring Clint Eastwood (Two Mules For Sister Sara, Dirty Harry, Escape From Alcatraz) and is said to be the mentor of Eastwood when it comes to directing, received much recognition with his “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers” in 1956, which was a scary and disturbing experience for movie goers worldwide. It would eventually spawn a similar successful and intense remake from 1978, starring Donald Sutherland. The music was composed by Carmen Dragon, who is lesser known for his film scores, as for his work as conductor and arranger. Although his “Body Snatchers” score does everything so right, one who isn’t familiar with Dragon’s music, could say it is not too special. I get your point. Maybe it isn’t indeed in this case, as the task was to give the movie the typical 50’s-sci-fi-flair, but I strongly recommend to you to listen to some of Dragon’s arrangements and album recordings. It is a great adventure and he throws the musical paint at you like a mad painter and even as a non-musical person you can hear how much he and his arrangements of the simplest pieces demand from the musicians (example below). kzbin.info/www/bejne/ganFqJt4dsuosKc So, to come back to the original topic; I was glad that somebody requested “Body Snatchers”, as it is a suspenseful sci-fi movie with a great score that might lead some of you to discover some of Carmen Dragon’s recordings and his craftmanship as an arranger and conductor. Enjoy!

THANK YOU for that informative comment about Carmen Dragon, Friend Fred ! Up until now I never knew he composed the music for this 1956 sci fi classic ! Carmen's son Darryl became a musical star in his own right as part of the very popular 70s & 80s duo "The Captain and Tenille". Darryl Dragon wore a captain's hat most of the time, so he was called "Captain" and "Tenille" was his wife, singer Toni Tenille, who has a beautiful voice. The two of them divorced in 2014 & Darryl passed away in 2019. As always, thanks so much for your hard work, Friend Frederik ! Hope you & all your loved ones are happy & staying safe !! :-)

I saw this on TV on 27th July 1974, that is what Elonet website shows when it was broadcast, I remember watching this with my cousins who were on summer holiday from South Africa. We also saw Fantastic Voyage (1966), shown 20.07.1974. So I guess it was a weekly theme.

Hello Jenny and thank you very much for your kind words! Sometimes it is difficult indeed to get your hands on something that is long out of print but sometimes, with a lot of patience it will work out. Some albums on my wish list took me several years to get(!). Well, some do collect soundtracks, some do stamps. It is what you make out of it, in any case it's a fine hobby. :-) Best to you! Fred

Could you please upload soundtracks of Baby Doll 1956

Hello Jude, I totally overlooked your comment, I am sorry! Sorry also, because I don't have "Baby Doll" in my collection, unfortunately. Maybe the day will come where I will have it - or an expanded release will occur, which I can grab. I am sorry but wish you just the best! Fred

Enjoy the channel and many of the soundtracks, but don't understand the posting of so many forgettable soundtracks from forgettable and inferior films. Rambo III? Robocop 2? Psycho 2? Jaws The Revenge? Jaws 3D? And so on and so on...

Hello SightSeer, I appreciate your comment. In fact it is pretty funny, as you are totally right. When we feature iconic scores like Jaws or RoboCop, surely some are wondering what the successors may have sounded or felt like. In case of Rambo III it is a little different, of course: Although the movie lacks of certain quality, it still has a pretty good Jerry Goldsmith score. Looking forward to the very new Rambo movies - you won't find any of this music here. This also fits to the Jaws scores. If you are just listening to them (apart from the dreadful movies), they are solid scores. Well, at least I would say. However, if we would just feature Oscar winning milestones here - we wouldn't have as much fun, as all the good stuff would be gone pretty quick, right? But hopefully today's video will be more after your taste! After all I totally understand you, but often, behind lazy movies there is some great music hidden. :-) Fred

@@SoundtrackFred Thanks for the thoughtful reply, and making me realize I've prejudged the scores attached to some bad movies, some of which apparently can be quite good or maybe even great as you say, which now I realize isn't fair. That said, I still don't plan on investing the time to scope them out lol. I do realize that there are great soundtracks beyond the Oscar-winning milestones, and I and many others really appreciate and value your posting them! Joy Luck Club?...:)

@@alevine1951 The corollary to bad films films with good scores is the many fine films with mediocre scores (looking at you Hans Zimmer!), music that serves the need but achieves no heights in its own craft, or lacks distinction (a few of John WIlliams' scores 1978 - 1981 fall into that category; and some time back I had on music from Dances with Wolves and my dear wife thought it sounded like James Bond. Ya think?). I was once asked on a radio show if my enthusiasm for film music derived from images of the films the music conjured up or appreciation for the music in its own right. The honest answers are both, and it depends! My impression is that most people fall into the former category, and that a lot of the emotional satisfaction they get out of hearing the music is a ripple of the entire film experience. That is understandable - it is difficult to separate the two - and evident in the many comments in Fred's uploads that praise the film as much as if not more than the music itself. I was chastised in the comment section of another one of Fred's suites for criticizing the music on its own merits while not having seen the movie. But if the music requires the images to pack emotion, then is the music on its own really any good?
