@@bobwoods1302 yes they are. they have been first "discovered" in 1835, but that doesnt mean they weren't there previously. just like when you discover a fossil, it doesnt mean it has just started existing there when you picked it up. in the 1800's the science were just starting and many many things were just starting to happen. no electricity, no car and no radio. people could have seen them in the 1600's, but without proper records you cannot say. -how would they have been imported in 1835? you cannot blame ship ballast -the indigenous were mainly keeping oral records, were they investigated for their version of the Lamproie story? -those fish are known to migrate from the sea to rivers and lakes, why do you claim they do not belong there? are you anti-science?

Grew up in Atlantic Canada and we had lampreys in our rivers due to Atlantic Salmon. When swimming, as kids, we use to swim under water so as to look out for the lampreys.

Eat them. They're in the rivers on the West Coast and are known to be a staple traditional food of indigenous people. Just last week the Yakima had their annual Lamprey harvest ceremony at Willamette Falls.

There's a KZbin channel about a guy who lets creepy things bite him, and he tried it with lampreys. They hurt, but didn't puncture his skin. They didn't seem very interested in a human, and/or they couldn't easily puncture his skin. Maybe they're not designed to handle humans.
