My daughter was in open heart surgery moments after being born. She is thriving now, thankfully. She's special needs and has trouble communicating verbally, but we've discovered she has my taste for energetic metalcore/deathcore. I've experienced this before. When my mom died, I felt as if reality split in two. That a past version of myself stayed behind to when she was alive, and a future me went forward into a world I didn't recognize. I often wondered when I would be able to "go back," as if it was just some dream that I was having. It changed the way I even grasped the concept of time. 2019, 2020, 2021, were just numbers to me. Finding myself in me was so very difficult, and I changed a lot after what happened. But just like that rainbow strobe at the end of the video, all of those versions of me became one. I finally discovered who "I" was. Through our deepest pain comes our greatest happiness, sometimes. Absolute masterpiece of a song, and a record. Thank you IA.

@@cloudrise I just want to say that I was listening from day one, its still my favorite album, and the song without a whisper is actually what introduced me to metal. Ended up in my recommended by some act of god and now I have a 300 song metal playlist, but it started with this album. I remember not even really "getting it" when I first listened to this song but when the breakdown hit at 2:10 I got hooked to metal like a drug. I didn't like the screaming yet, but the drums on this track went beyond that. 3:25 and onwards is what I think edging is in audio form. I still think the drummer is the best alive right now. Listen to 2:45 and tell me he isn't top 5. Brother is cracked.

This song really spoke to me. As Marcus said, it's about identity crisis, from what feels like after death or loss of some kind. Their music helped me after the loss of my Dad a few years back, and Heavener made me shed more than a few tears. Immolation of Night though is incredibly empowering and made me proud of still being here after so much pain in the past.
