Always stirs the stumps. The lassie who plated the solo introduction was superb. What were the tunes she plated?

How can people keep walking past her at the beginning? Surely, one would at least stop and listen in. Perhaps it's just me, but a young lass in the middle of a mall playing her bagpipes takes some guts and the least they could do is give her some time.

Yeah - like it's an every day occurrence to hear a bagpiper in a shopping mall .....
@michaelrs80106 жыл бұрын
The only explanation I could give myself for that was that it is Scotland and it is the bagpipes, so they just Shrugged and kept going. 😃

No, it really is a 'thing'. World-famous musicians have deliberately gone out to the streets (and subways) to busk as if they were simply street musicians and were routinely ignored by those walking by - the same people who would probably pay hundreds of dollars to see them in concert if they had a clue. Oblivious people, as I think of them. I can't help but stop when anyone is playing music -anywhere! It's purely respectful to at least give them a few minutes of your time (and perhaps some money)...but this defies even my low opinion of the average person. At least the rest of those who were shown sporadically in the video watching with rapt attention made up for it a wee bit.

I'm a Long Islander (further out than LIC) who was raised in Glasgow. I love the pipes and feel very close to my Scots cousins especially when sharing videos such as this. If you're a Scot you always seem to react to the pipes with a tear - and a catch in the heart. :)

ElizabethGS - In three weeks time I am off to LIC for two months. Have access to an apartment on the 29th floor of a building between Court Square and Queensboro Plaza.

As a piping student myself I was kind of unsettled, though I did not know why at first, when that first chick appeared playing the bagpipes. And then I realized what was "wrong". They pipes were on her right shoulder. But you know how your mind wants to explain something, so I just figured that, however it happened, the video got reversed. Then I realized, no, the store signs are clearly readable. Not there is any law against it, but having been around a lot of pipe bands and other piper's I truly have never seen it before. In researching it I found that changing hand position is more common than changing shoulder position, but apparently, however rare or not, any combination of right or left shoulder and right or left hand on top is out there. More is the wonder that I found out that a famous Piper by the name of John Burgess used to marvel people by changing hand position midtune. Now THERE would be a master piper. 😃

or maybe she is just left handed?
@ElizabethGS6 жыл бұрын
nothing wrong with your wondering about this, but what WAS wrong with your comment was in calling her a 'chick'. Goodness! She's a bonafide and qualified MUSICIAN! As they all were. Some respect, please? (If you're wondering what you might have referred to her instead, here are some choices: young lady, young woman, musician)....

How do you set up your pipes to play left-handed? And indeed, only in Scotland or in Philadelphia could being ambushed by pipes be such a minor thing.
@steveturnertheweddingpiper76808 жыл бұрын
+redleg56 you can order the bag left handed. other than that everything is the same. I am left handed been playing like that for 40 years!
