Great video Patrick!, one question though. Why do you take -2xR1+R2---> R2 instead of just subtracting 2R1 from R2 (2xR1-R2-->R") in the first step. Or are you not allowed to use subtraction in row reduction? Thanks!

Can a nxm matrix have an invers? Or is only for square matrixes like nxn?

Nope, nxm does not have inverse, simply because it can't be associated with unit matrix. unit matrix can only be nxn dimension

I use a different method to get the left side to represent an identity matrix, however my right side looks completely different from yours.. so for example to turn the 2 into a 0 in row 2 column 1, I do: R2 - 2 x R1 = 0. But then that turns the bottom right 1 on my inverse side into a 0 which does not fit the requirements of the matrix.. I don't understand the mechanics of how arithmetic should be done in these matrices so then when it comes to a-1 x b (when derived from a system of equations) my answers aren't just the sum of the numbers from B :-(

Use your fingers to point whichever one you are working on, speak those numbers very silently, that way you will neither forget the numbers nor their signs
