Great to have a new version of Reger’s string quartets in one piece here. And good performances too!

A true master of part-writing & free modulation. Melody and contrast seem less apparent in Reger, and despite the omnipresent counterpoint he does not achieve a particularly rich rhythmic variety between parts. The drama consists of a maximalist forging ahead, which comprises the virtue of this work, avant in 1900, but sounding like the period today. Reger will always have his admirers and this is a fine video.
