An interesting initiative and quite different from Ripple energy. It's also quite different from the Govermemts Green Savings Bonds which invest in nuclear energy. Renewable energy needs to be generated where it is needed not transported the length and breadth of the country on humungous pylons, so I'm with you if that is your intention. The problem of course is/was the previous governments ban on onshore wind turbines in England.

Sounds interesting. Are investments EIS eligible?

I love the idea of it. 3 years doesn't sound good though. Why not offer longer periods?

Yep that would seal the deal - or if credit is applied then whether that “slips under the radar” as it were? 🤷‍♂️

So this is a octopus branded Ripple?
@dmb0202

No. Ripple are an independent company who set up collectives that part own turbines and solar.

Good idea. Like a more accessible version of the various opportunities offered through Ethex and Triodos.

So what’s the ROI? Is the investment linked to my Octopus energy bill to give me discount?

6% max, as was stated at the beginning.

Any idea why the wind farm sector has dropped around 80% in value, over the last few years?

Good job Ripple Co-ops didn’t go down the CfD path as there’d be little left to differentiate from this Octopus offer.

What is the difference between this and a three-year 6% corporate bond? If it is a bond, then say so. This way it just looks suspicious…

Seems like the diff would be an over/under on project cost overrun/underrun+good weather, as well as the theme of the investment

6% is the best case scenario with this scheme, so there is a highr element of risk than in a bond.

So I take all the risk in terms of building the infrastructure, and if it's a success 3 years later you take the shares back at a fraction of their value. Doesn't sound like a great investment to me when cash is paying 4.5%.

You'll be lucky. 4.5% is the base rate. Banks need to make a profit.

lol so you want us to invest the capital and then not reap the rewards for the long term beyond the three years. That’s a rip off!

The shares aren't tradeable and so they need some way to return capital. This is probably an efficient way. Octopus/kcracken try many different things to understand what might work well. This is probably one of those. They aren't charging fees and probably aren't trying to make a profit on it

It's basically a cheap loan for them, since they don't / can't guarantee a % return

Would be nice to first solve the chronic smart meter connectivity issues plaguing so many of your customers. It’s of little use developing innovative products if the customer’s meter can’t reliably talk to your server.
@donincognito189
@donincognito189 10 сағат бұрын
That's not a problem Octopus can solve. Smart Meter connectivity is done via a company called Data Communications Company (DCC) who operate the network between your home and your energy provider. Problems are usually down to poor wireless network signal in certain areas, especially those with large hills.
@tonyusher4598
@tonyusher4598 6 сағат бұрын
@ and therein lies the nub of the problem. As an illustration, when a train is late owing to a points failure passengers receive redress from their respective TOC, not by complaining direct to Network Rail. Currently the DCC is able to turn a blind eye to their responsibilities by hiding behind a firewall provided by likes of Octopus. If a company the size of Octopus is unable to encourage DCC to do its duty then what hope do individual domestic customers have.
