I love the openness of Shirakawa sensei and his joy of experiencing techniques. The similarities in the techniques of specific martial arts are very interesting. A common source of origin? A very interesting exchange. Thank you. 🙏

this, aikido, judo etc all originate from japanese ju jutsu (different schools). Probably from aiki jujutsu which is more than a thousand years old, or from other jujutsu that have aiki concepts. Aiki jujutsu also learned from other previous jujutsu arts and these all originate from.. sumo! Yes, all jujutsu actually originate from sumo.

@@notuxnobux That is very interesting information. Knowledge about martial arts is still very limited in Europe. Thank you.

Actually, I was taught that the origin of most Aiki style arts were the weapon based arts like Kenjutsu and Yarijutsu. The arm and hip movement combined with the posture of the spine and strength of core muscles when performing power cuts and slashes with the sword or thrusts of the spear is similar in principle to the throws and locks of the Aiki jutsu arts. That was why we were taught how to use the Bokken and Jo as a training tool to strengthen our core and arms as well as teach us how to defend against them.

@@johnlloyddy7016 It's amazing that I can also learn something interesting from the discussion under the film. When I analyze in my head the videos of Shirakawa Shihan's training from the dojo, I come to the conclusion that you are right. Thank you

Thank you! I wonder if the "reflection" and "echo" I heard you discussing in aiki-age is related the the "way of the mountain echo" (yamabiko) that O'Sensei referred to.
that was interesting. a more scientific explanation of what was going on would have been more efficient.

I do not know about the one done with the fingers (never experienced it before) but there are explanations for the ones done with the wrist and these explanations are very far from Ki and that kind of thing. They are merely some joing manipulation (like most techniques in Aikido) that result in your body moving in a certain way to avoid pain, such action ends up compromising the strenght that you can exert to most directions with your arms, knowing this, the one doing the technique is then able to easily unbalance you. Mostly because you are in your knees! The technique is done differently against someone which isn't on their knees.

Now then. I am really skeptical about the finger techniques and the ones done just by touching
