Zombies in Haiti are very real. My parents are from neighboring country Santo Domingo, I have been told stories of zombies in Haiti since I was a kid and it goes back decades past my birth year. My parents heard stories of Haitian zombies when they were kids. I have also talked to individuals in Santo Domingo that have encountered the so called zombie. It is very true it exists.

I feel I need to clarify this from reading the comments: he did NOT get married to the woman, he got married to the spirit that was possessing her. That's what these ceremonies are about: letting spirits possess your body and doing things. That guy eating the burning wood will not have blisters or burns, because he is possessed. I know all this because I went to school with a lot of haitian people whose parents had immigrated where I live, and my grandmother in the 70s lived 3 years in Haiti and got married to a spirit there too. Since then she has developed a 6th sense, and she has known things she couldn't have know, had dreams that became true, and to this day, when she goes to bed at night she says she sometimes feel something getting in bed with her and pressing the mattress down. She sleeps alone and has no pets btw. She doesn't like talking about what she did in Haiti in too much detail though.
