I've been waiting 14 years to get my now adult son autism care. Medicaid in Texas(SSI medicaid ) has denied this, basic care and mental healthcare other than 4 day hospitalization occasionally. For medical ,Neuro and mental health, they put out the patient provider directory and fill iT with old numbers, retired docs and clinics who don't accept any medicaid. It has been this way in Texas for decades. They hate people with disabilities. I'm physically disabled, a woman and a widow/single mom. They hate us

Most companies earn profits by providing a product or service to customers. However, health insurance companies earn profits by denying access to needed services to their customers. Companies that don't provide anything of value to customers not only should not profit, they should not exist.

What Corporate America fails to see is that when they deflect or excuse their behavior by saying things like, 'the market is amoral' or 'it's nothing personal, it's just business,' it is very personal to the individuals affected. It’s personal to the worker not being paid fairly, the person being price-gouged at the grocery store, the tenant being evicted because they’ve been priced out of their home, the family watching a loved one suffer and die due to a designed denial clause, and the individual losing years of their life to these injustices. The market’s only purpose, it seems, is to grow and consume-no matter the cost.

There's so much wrong with the american take on autism. It's not a disease, requiring treatment. Even your nomenclature is wrong and keeping these people in the shadow of 'they are an expensive problem.' A person doesn't 'have autism' - a person 'is autistic'. It is who they are. The moment you start to realise and adopt this view, you can start to educate the families and communities around them in how to assist autistic children to fit in to society - and assist society to support and accommodate autistic children and their families. It's not a mental health issue. Mental health issues are an effect of society misunderstanding autistic people. Yes, positive reinforcing therapies for the above is beneficial. Having the view that you're treating, or 'correcting' an abberation, leaves you in the dark ages of leaches and asylums.

I would be interested to see how their policies toward ABA providers compare to other major carriers, since the trend is national. Probably the same for all carriers. Actuarial science - the science of risk - determines pricing and coverage when health plans are written. It's almost as if people forgot businesses exist to make money. This smear piece on UHC is just a way to ride the wave and keep the story rolling.

We need to not let this go. We need to not get distracted from the CORE ISSUE. For-profit health insurance is based on a fundamental conflict of interest. The more healthcare that is denied, the more profit these companies make. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE WE SHOULD BE DISCUSSING regarding this event. $450 BILLION dollars PER YEAR. ~68,000 deaths attributable to delayed, withheld, and lacking care PER YEAR. These private for-profit healthcare corporations are selling years of our life expectancy for as much money as they can extract from us. We pay more per capita for healthcare than any other nation on earth, yet we are consistently worse than 40th in life expectancy. Private, for-profit health insurance NEEDS TO END.

Most of the nordic countries do have private options for the wealthy, but that does not change the fact that the vast majority of healthcare is government-funded. You couldn't be more wrong. I'd call our system "for profit socialism". We don't pick our healthcare plan, our employers do thanks to the government. And the healthcare sector is the most regulated industry in the US. Also, CON laws exist that impose a legal healthcare cartel so we don't get competition. This is not a free market. We have drug companies that want to lower prices, doctors that want to provide affordable care, and citizens that would choose them. If we had a free market, why can't people choose to work together so everyone gets what they want? It's because the government has meddled with the market to create middlemen with monopoly/monopsony power and all of us have no choice but to do what they say. I'm not saying moving to a single payer system won't fix things, but the current system is far from a free market.

It's up to the people to resist - not capitalist corporations. It's not their fault they are trying to get as much as possible for as little as possible. That's business. It's just weird how we allowed corporations to take over healthcare, like it's a business. THAT'S what needs to change. By cutting down on the federal budget for all the made-up jobs designed to keep career politicians in power, we could afford health coverage for EVERYONE. It all comes down to realizing how much our government has been stealing from us and then fixing it. A lot of people are going to be very angry when they find out how much better we could have been living if all this money was actually being used properly. The first thing we need to do is seperate politicians from insider-trading. This is the primary problem behind all this corruption and I really don't understand why we are still allowing it. It's a blatant conflict of interest and is an insult to our intelligence. Nancy Pelosi has been using her position to get rich, not improve anyone's life - except her own. This is ridiculous and needs to stop.

Are there also more autism diagnoses in other countries? Optum MUST pay for appropriate therapy. AND RFK is concerned about a specific vaccine component used in several common vaccines. I wonder whether there is enough data about different usage patterns and autism diagnosis rates to test RFK ideas. ???

I suggest you bring in actual people and understand their cases. And highlight them. And pinpoint the specific issues in insurance. We’ve heard enough babble from industry and policy experts, we need more stories of the people.

We need to move past Obamacare. We need single payer, period. And newsflash, BOTH parties don't want that because it means less money for their rich friends/donors.

Yep research project 2025 and how they want to privatize the government. This will take away more services that Americans rely on and give it to private interest. These billionaires could use their wealth to pay off the debt but rather bleed us dry so they can now become trillionaires. Its utter robbery of the hard woking class in the country. Hopefully people are waking up to the outright robbery.

This is hilarious. You guys are getting all upset about private insurance cutting costs, when that is their purpose! Do you think the public insurance in the UK covers ABA therapy? No, it costs too much and is not effective. You also think insurance is raking in huge profits, when they legally cannot make more than 20%. And UHC only made 6% profit this year! People have no clue about the balancing act between cost and effectiveness of healthcare that somebody has to make, be it private insurance or a single payer system. People want the best healthcare and to pay the least for it. But you can't get both. We don't have a free market when it comes to US healthcare, but people still want to blame greed. What we have is "for profit socialism".

The United States is a low-tax country Compared with other nations in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United States ranks 32nd out of 38 in revenue as a percentage of GDP.20 But it’s not just that the United States is near the bottom end of revenue; it is nowhere close even to the average. Over the CBO’s 10-year budget window, the United States will collect $26 trillion less in revenues than it would if its revenue as a percentage of GDP were as high as the average OECD nation. When compared to EU nations, that number rises to $36 trillion. (see Figure 2) In contrast, the $289 billion projected revenue increase in the Inflation Reduction Act21 still leaves the United States ranking 32nd out of 38 OECD countries
