Investigation into Merih Demiral's goal celebration with bozkurt! One reaction after another to UEFA's decision
MHP President Devlet Bahçeli reacted to UEFA's launching an investigation into Merih Demiral's joy. In his statement, Bahçeli said, "The fact that our son Demiral shared his goal joy with the Bozkurt sign has apparently disturbed many sick circles inside and outside of us." AK Party and BBP also reacted to UEFA's investigation decision.
Turkey defeated Austria 2-1 in the last 16 round match of the European Championship and advanced to the quarterfinals. Apart from the 2 goals he scored, Merih Demiral marked the match with the bozkurt sign he made while celebrating.

MHP President Devlet Bahçeli reacted against UEFA for launching an investigation into Merih Demiral's celebration by making the bozkurt sign.
Here are Bahçeli's statements on his social media account:
"The fact that our son Merih Demiral, who won the appreciation and justified praise of our nation with the goal he scored and the football he played last night, shared his goal joy with the Bozkurt sign apparently disturbed many diseased circles inside and outside of us, and thus became an excuse for different searches and explanations. The participation of UEFA in this evil caravan, as well as internal foci with obvious hostility towards Turks and Turkey, is extremely biased and wrong.
The Bozkurt sign made by our son Merih after he put the ball in the net is the Turkish nation's message to the world and UEFA's initiation of an investigation in this context is both purposeful and an intermediate station in the chain of provocations that have been gaining dangerous distance in recent days. While we condemn the investigation initiated by UEFA, it is a national necessity for everyone, every person to act with common sense and cold-bloodedness so that our struggle on the field is not wasted at the table.
It is our common responsibility not to fall prey to the provocations and harassment of opportunists who want to hinder our country on every ground and to muddy our domestic peace and tranquility."
REACTION ALSO CAME FROM AK PARTY
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik also reacted to the scandal on his social media account. Çelik said, "The statement made by German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser targeting the goal celebration of our national footballer Merih Demiral and the investigation launched by UEFA is unacceptable. Those looking for racism and fascism should focus on the recent election results in different countries in Europe."

Grand Unity Party (BBP) leader Mustafa Destici also expressed the following reaction on his X account:
"Bozkurt has been the symbol of Turks since Ergenekon. It is wrong to attribute other meanings to it. The real reason for their discomfort is our "Turkish identity", "Islamic faith" and the success of our National Team. I find UEFA's initiation of an investigation against Merih Demiral, who made the bozkurt sign in the Turkey-Austria match, and the statement made by the German Interior Minister on the subject "ignorant", "purposeful" and "malicious". Those who target our brother Merih Demiral, our National Team and our nation should know that we are Turks, we are Muslims... And inshallah we will be champions. We are all Merih, we are all Bozkurt..."
