Between this channel, and the Rational Reminder podcast, I really wish I got into finance, and furthermore, wish I worked at PWL. You all give out such great info, and the culture seems to be all about helping people get ahead. Much obliged.

@Dennis Micallef - That's exactly how we approached social media over 10 years ago - we just wanted to help investors (and build our own knowledge at the same time). And if those efforts also created a sustainable business, it was a plus (but the business aspect always came as a secondary consideration). I really appreciate your feedback - I'll be sure to share your comments with the rest of the PWL crew.

I read Dan’s blog for yrs and recently his book (plus Larry Bates and Andrew Hallam.) He inspired my husb and I to DIY our now (semi) retirement portfolio. Husb still does data analytics consulting part-time (enjoys it) and I love learning about investing. We calculated fees paid in past for IMHO over complicated portfolios and it was a shock. Amazing how complacent you can be - even if you know better. Our current advisor is great but retiring. We also keep up on new innovation incl crypto/block chain. For us it’s interesting vs intimidating. Thx to you, Dan and PWL team.

PS We’re fortunate to qualify for PWL (and 🇨🇦) so may still call if we hit the wall on DIY. For now we’ll give it a try w/help incl your and Ben Felix videos, PWL blog etc. 😊

Thanks. Now to figure out whether it is more prudent to invest in USD-denominated ETFs (withholding tax for Canadian accounts) or CAD-denominated ones (no withholding tax plus not FXS considerations, but much higher MER). Like so much in life I suspect that there is a complicated answer to this question that depends on multiple factors.

Hi Justin, due to the witholding taxes on the dividends, should these ETFs be held in a RRSP or would it make much difference if they were to be held in a TFSA or non-registered account?

What are your thoughts on Scotia banks new emerging market ETF called SITE?
@JustinBenderCPM Жыл бұрын
@LearnWithKris - SITE is a traditional emerging markets equity ETF that targets large + mid-cap companies (unlike VEE and XEC, it exclude small-cap companies, so it is slightly less diversified). However, it holds the underlying companies directly (not via a U.S.-listed ETF), so it avoids a layer of foreign withholding tax in all account types. It also has a lower MER of ~0.18% (although it has the potential of a higher trading expense, as it is buying the individual companies directly). SITE would be more comparable to BMO's ZEM, Mackenzie's QEE, etc.

Hi Justin, which is better investing through Robo-advisors(Wealthsimple managed) or buying XEQT/VEQT ?
@JustinBenderCPM Жыл бұрын
@Algo_0001 - If you can learn to place an ETF trade (easy) and ensure you don’t panic at the next market downturn (harder), than buying an asset allocation ETF is superior to using a Robo advisor, in my opinion.

@Super Royal Stucco - Unfortunately, I don't offer any fee-only services, but keep watching the channel and you should be able to do this on your own in no time :)
