Good question. Everyone has different criteria for a purchase. Build a wish list, and a must have list prior to arriving, including the locations you would like to live in. I've been reading in alot of the expat groups that its been really hard to find skilled people for home renovations. Alot of people getting ripped off or faulty work. You would think people would want a good reputation during this real estate boom. How to you find legit builders to work with? I would love a video on this.

So far we are doing it ourselves ! Luckily my husband can do most of the work and our house has the foundation, walls, floors and roof in good condition because workers are hard to find believe it or not!

Olá lisac7883, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel. For short term rentals, we would recommend that you go online and find three different A.L.( short term)rental properties. One in Funchal, one on the north side of the island ,and one on the southwest. You then have a better overall idea about the island. Hope that helps. Alan, Leslie and Wolf

I liked the interview with your guest. I will be coming in October or November, and will consult her re: rentals. If I like Madeira I will be buying. I had heard buying in Portugal is not like the U.S. in that realtors will only be interested in showing properties that are represented by their firm. Necessitating consultation with several realtors. Have you found this to be true?

Olá Michael, Thanks for watching and supporting our channel 😀. Like the US, Real estate agents get a commission to sell property. Some agents will not share commissions with the buyers agent. However, in that case insist to negotiate a lower listing price in order for you to cover your buyer's agent fees. It's the fair alternative. We strongly recommend that you work with one person you trust to purchase a property, just like you would do in the states. We like Claudia, and trust her as our agent. A fiscal representative to get a NiF is no longer necessary for anybody beginning July 2022. This law has been in place for almost a year. This is true for EU citizens and third countries. I did it and got my NIF with my American passport on the spot. I arrived in late May. And it doesn’t cost you a cêntimo.
