If you enjoy the hobby and it increases in value, then great. Collections can absolutely be valuable, but the joy of your collection is worth more than the money. If you invest in Pokémon without the joy of the collecting, then you are just putting capitol in a high-risk volatile market.

Every market in 2020 went crazy with the trillions of dollars dumped into the economy. They will all go through corrections. Unless by some miracle, our incompetent politicians can make modern monetary theory work. Pokemon investing in my opinion is really only viable if you actually like the cards. Unless you play/enjoy the cards genuinely it's a little harder to both want to keep up with the new and upcoming sets/know what fellow collectors enjoy! I think that at the end of the day, even if investing in it doesn't work out, I'd still have a bunch of cool cards to look at/open, and that makes me happy :)

I think if anyone is considering keeping sealed product is wise to do so. Yes it requires patience, but if you enjoy Pokémon, and if u can afford buying multiple boxes at release, open a few and save a few you really can’t go wrong. Even if boxes tank to $80 a booster history shows us 5 years later that box can conservatively 4-5x. $150 or less spent today can be worth 2k 10 years later. If you have kids who want to go to college or just saving for even retirement. Setting a side 1 box per week that’s 52 a year is 520 boxes that’s a pretty nice nest egg if every box averaged out to be worth $350 a piece. Again history shows us that a box can hit $1,000-$2,000 range within a 10 year window so that average can be vastly under valued. U can probably get the same return in a retirement fund but we’re talking about enjoying a hobby with a financial twist and it totally makes sense
@MartezJoe150 Жыл бұрын
Not necessarily opposed to this mindset but you can easily do the same kind of thing with stocks, bonds, mutual funds etc and see similar if not greater returns. No one should 100% throw their eggs in one basket of course, but I'd caution about putting that much in sealed without also allocating funds to less "sexy" investments.

Danny, in my opinion this is one of the best videos you have ever done. People are under the impression that sealed product will go up in eternity and they are taking huge positions on sealed product like never before. While I agree it makes sense to buy one or two booster boxes at retail price for every set release and speculate on them, people are going overboard and buying multiple cases hoping to 5X their money. I am also very hesitate to trust all these booster box "collectors". In my opinion, people are mostly buying modern booster boxes because they think the prices will keep going up. At the end of day, please collect what you love and always try to look for value. The beauty about Pokemon is that there is 25+ years of beautiful cards and there are several eras where cards are undervalued in comparison to the modern sets.

Great video. I've been struggling with the idea of selling my evolving skies and eevee heroes booster boxes because I'm scared they are going to skyrocket in value. This puts into perspective that that's unlikely. Still unsure of a price point at which i want to unload, I'd like to get rid of it within the next year though.

I do have some sealed stuff. It’s definitely matured well for only a couple years. But I mean it’s only a couple thousand dollars. It’s no life changer. I didn’t buy to resell. I like looking at it everyday. As far as singles. No way I’m keeping up with the market. If my paycheck was good. I’m going to grab whatever card I was looking at. If I like it. I get it. Straight to the binder. I don’t even care about its condition. I just want the card.

I bought a gold star zard, base set zard, expedition zard, many other zards for a total of £140 on ebay bidding around 2015-2016. I sold the gold star around a year later for triple the price.

Thank you for the history lesson. I think a lot of people are quick to forget what’s happened over the past 5-7 years

All it comes down to is prior to the pandemic there was genuine interest. There wasn't a lot of people looking to Pokémon for investment. People were predominantly buying what they liked. Now people are buying with the INTENTION to one day sell not hold. Do you all understand. This hobby isn't being driven by interest right now, it's being driven by investment! That is dangerous.

Awesome informative video!!! I myself have rejoined the hobby after being absent 15+ years, was way late to the party with Sword and Shield but looking to invest and keep some product sealed for Scarlet and Violet. I find the collecting aspect more fun than the investment side since I’m enjoying just pulling cards with my GF’s son, but having sealed product hanging around for a rainy day is never a bad thing imo.

Its high commodity items for those who love it and rare things that not many people have . Evolving skies would be justifiably more than 1k in 5+ years as there is dwindling supply and demand growns as they become more rare . .. dont worry man obviosly current sets wont be higher atm than msrp. It might be crazy yeah, but it just shows peoples love for it and collecting old, extremely rare items that most can't ever het their hands on.

I see everything selling out in stores again. I’m even seeing people standing in line early for restocks. I think the 2020 hype is happening all over again. Im not ready for this lol

Part of the problem is just supply keeps dropping. Reprints have disappeared and product releases have slowed tremendously.
@headPokemon3126 Жыл бұрын
@@DannyPhantump do you think it's an issue getting product they use to make the cards? Or is it them printing for china now? Idk. I hope they do the same thing they did last year and dump tons of boxes on stores out of nowhere. I heard itll be may before we hear about anything about reprints.

The same is happening in my area
@flare31777 Жыл бұрын
@@headPokemon3126 I think the reason for not making reprints of SWSH sets is POKEMON Co wants to raise the base level of MSRP price of the new sets. If no reprints, the supply will not meet the demand and the price will keep growing and then it is justifiable to raise the MSRP price of the new sets. If it was normal to buy booster boxes for 55USD, this will be a new level to buy them for 100USD.

Danny, I'm a little confused at the end of the video you compare Evolutions booster box to Evolving Skies box stating that because Evolutions got stuck at a price point ceiling of around $800 or whatever that means Evolving Skies will do the same... lol. Have you even considered the top card values in Evolutions compared to Evolving Skies? The card VALUE is on a completely different level, which is why comparing the two sets sealed booster boxes is not a good reflection of price potential.
@DannyPhantump Жыл бұрын
I agree the card values are completely different, but I also think that people who buy evolutions boxes currently at that price point arent necessarily opening many up. Eventually, evolving skies will get to the same point where it doesn’t make much sense. If I said $800 was the price potential of evolving skies, then I misspoke. For clarity purposes, I think evolving skies will be like evolutions from the fact that it will hit a certain price point where people will be much less likely to open the boxes, and then it will level off for quite some time. You also must take into account the nostalgia factor driving up evolutions, as well as the time when it peaked. There are a lot of variables that drove evolutions up to the price point it’s at and evolutions is an anomaly. Very few sets have top single value lower than Evolutions, yet Evo is still one of the top valued booster boxes over the past 10 years.

Another factor is the sheer amount of product being opened today also, it has to be at least 10 times what it was 5 years ago
