I'd personally like to see the same tests done on Japanese cards to see if they're more durable and less prone to scratching of the holofoil as from my personal experience they seem much better quality cards usually! Excellent video as always! :D
@Jcoles272 жыл бұрын
I agree! Just…maybe without breaking anymore slabs.
@tienshin99992 жыл бұрын
I'm sure that they'd be a lot more durable. I buy large "retirement" collections from japan regularly and have had cards which come together in a box without sleeves that have been left for many years grade 9.5 and even on one occasion a 10 with CGC. When cards are heavily played as well it's very hard to cause any damage to the corner and edges but it does cause some minor scratching on the holofoil.

Great research all around. One thing I'd like to see tested is the use of "perfect fit" sleeves and if they cause Holo scratches/edge wear. Also, the combination of perfect fit sleeves and one-touch magnetic cases. These are becoming popular with the backlog at grading companies persisting. This way collectors can still get a similar experience of a card in a slab but not wait a year/pay an arm and a leg.

I wonder if different holo patterns have different scratchability. The Sword and Shield holo patterns seem to get less scuffed than the more “smooth” holo
@boz77372 жыл бұрын
Yes there are differences! Some holo cards have more of a rough surface and they scratch SUPER easily!!!! Best example I could think of are the first EX cards such as mewtwo ex. They have a very rough surface that seemlingly collects scratches just by breathing on them... Its not just the EX cards, but also all of their reverse holo cards from that set. So its not about the holo pattern itself, but the general surface and the way these cards were printed. You can usually tell by gently touching the cards to understand what I mean. Some feel almost "sticky" and get scratched WAY easier than smoother ones. I think they fixed this issue and only certain sets were affected by this issue btw.

I mean in a way it is. In the sense that you can get a card graded. It returns a 7. So you crack it and resend it and it comes back an 8. You repeat until it returns a 9. Or you send in a different card and it comes back a 9 so you crack and resend until it it comes back a 9.5 or 10. It can be very subjective. Even in the terms of buying general use cards on the NM/LP/MP/HP scale. I have purchased cards that were MP but looked more LP to me while also received LP cards that looked way more MP then other MPs in the same batch purchase. Every sellers grades are different and every graders grading is different. Subjective would be a better way to phrase it than a scam though.

I sometimes even put my finger inside a new sleeve and press my nail into the top corners to open it more before putting cards in. Regular sleeves rather than soft sleeves pose the most risk, although corners can catch with soft sleeves as well. Another good experience would be to send back those to Chanseys to get graded again to see if they get the same grade or lower

Honestly, this video was awesome, think you so much for taking the time to make videos like this so people like me and others can watch this as well, overall, I think that all your videos are like 10/10 no problem and also I love in another video that you did you said BAD BINDER BEHAVIOR that was so funny, and it made sense because it was BAD BINDER BEHAVIOR 😂

If there’s dust on the card, it will scratch 100% in the sleeve. I doubt it would have anything to do with the sleeve itself

Fantastic, the lesson here folks is treat your cards like the crown jewels. Pat, would be good to see how much damage can be done whilst in the pack (during any kind of transport/shipping) or even whilst opening a pack.

Check out one of my previous experiments, we tested shipping damage including on a sealed booster pack!

I would love to see a science experiment on how easy it is to ruin the edges/corners of the cards 😂 Also I think it would be cool to do a collab with a TGC player for a video! Like you inspect and judge the quality of the cards in their deck, and then you guys play a round of the game just for kicks and giggles

Bless ye for doing this science experiment! Also top notch editing and shots. This is a difficult subject to capture on camera. Awesome stuff!!
