Thank you for putting Many Happy Returns on KZbin - for whatever idiosyncratic reason, I like listening to podcasts on YT. Cheers!

Thanks for another great video. Would be great to hear your opinion about tax efficient investment outside ISA and SIPP. For example there's no CGT on Gilt, so a lower YTM Gilt will beat a higher MMF return for 40%/45% tax payer. What do you think?

Why do you prefer vhvg over vuag when vhvg is circa 65% US stocks anyway? And almost all markets seem to crash as soon as the US does so divesting over geographies seems redundant? Vuag is 0.07% in fees and vhvg is almost double?
@AlexisMoore-nx6wfАй бұрын
I invest in VHVG and I do question why I do it. I’m probably losing out on gains and paying more in fees. But buying the biggest companies across the developed world seems like a sensible thing to do.

Historically the global market outperformed the US market in about 50% of the last 50 (or 100?) years. Considering this I think diversifying globally isn't a bad idea.
@leeku7768Ай бұрын
Not sure what you’re referring to. S&P on average is 9.8% and international (ex US) is 8.9% over 50 years

@@leeku7768 Don't fall for recency bias. There's always the case that the US doesn't outperform.

Thanks for another excellent video! Inspired by one of your previous videos, I've decided to gain most of my US market exposure through the ETF I500, a fully swap-based S&P 500 tracker from iShares with a TER of just 0.05%. I've noticed that while most S&P 500 UCITS ETFs tend to trade at a premium of around 3% to their net asset value, I500 trades at a premium closer to 5%. These premiums seem reasonable since these ETFs truly are worth more than the sum of the parts, especially for European investors. However, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the higher premium associated with this swap-based fund. Do you think this premium might decrease if new low-cost swap-based S&P 500 trackers enter the market? Or is it more likely a steady-state result, reflecting the risk-adjusted present value of the tax optimization benefits?

Really would appreciate seeing MHR in video. For some reason I always find video podcasts much more engaging than vanilla audio.

Regarding ethics and avoiding stocks for that reason, there is no point doing that if you invest in index funds! They invest indiscriminately just based on numbers.. which is actually one reason why I don't.

Hi Ramin, you mentioned that ETFs domiciled in Luxembourg incur 30% withholding tax for UK investors. I currently use the LCWL ETF as I was under the impression it’s only 15% (same as Ireland). You’ve not got me second guessing, so just wondering where you got this information from please? Many thanks 🙏🏻

I am applying to change my sipp from vangaurd to Hargreaves Lansdown so I can invest in US small cap. Now HL is being taken over by middle eastern investors, is it a concern having my whole sipp held with them.

so what about skimming off some profit into say cash or a money market fund then re investing during a fall like the last few days

Does anyone know of anywhere that ACWI can be bought for 0.12%? T212 and AJ Bell both have it listed at a higher price. Is it simply a matter of waiting for the recent price reduction to work its way through to these platforms?

Thank you Ramin. 30K women and children killed in Gaza in the past 10 months can hardly be considered Hamas. I know higher numbers of "colleateral damage" were tolerated in the civilized world as long as they are....

If you invest in index funds you are likely investing in all sorts of unethical stocks - including those involved in Ukraine, as well as all the mega caps involved in all sorts of mining and environmental destruction for their new iPhones etc. If we are talking investing and ethics it's a can of worms.
@freewind1977Ай бұрын
Right. I am just questionning the narrative Ramin seems to subscribe to, and making a point.
