This guy is so right. The oil major stocks took off from share buybacks. Investors only see the miner share price going down and down. Even if the share price is juiced artificially- it doesn't matter. Higher share prices beget higher share prices.

Yes, with the financings/dilution over the past decade, the stocks have much greater floats so even with these high gold prices, they can't even get past a recent high from a year or two ago.

I'm disappointed in gold mining stocks. It's been a tough 7 years. But I am happy with gold. It is appreciating at over 8% a year in CND$.

@will21 the gold etfs under performed gold, from 2016 to 2023. The GLD etf captured 80% of gain while yhe MNT etf captured 60% of the ptice gain. If you really want some gold, consider dollar cost averaging in. Perhaps buy a 1 oz coin every 1-3 months. Be prepared to hold your gild for 10 years if you really want to maximize your gain. Just food for thought, not financial advice.

Some great nuggets, John and Charlotte! Insider buying is huge for me, especially in small caps...without this, it is "lifestyle financing" - to quote R. Rule. I wonder about AI trading? I noticed the smallest pimple of a platinum miner went 3x when Russia invaded Ukraine. It is now below pre-invasion price.

Sources say Russia has been dumping Platinum at low-ball prices to pay for the war. Have also heard that they pay for some things in gold. Ppl don't want Rubles? Wadda shocker.

Gold is driven by physical demand this time. Miners stocks depend on liquidity in stock market, which is poor (excluding top 7).

interesting, buybacks are the way to go while their shares are cheap, rewarding shareholders. Just this week PAAS announced they plan to buy back shares in 2024, those are the best miners to own or ones that pay dividends like BTFG paying 6.5%, or SBSW paying 9%

Sadly, even if gold gets up to $2500, which many investors dreamed about years ago, most of the PM stocks might only get back to their highs from 2022 or even 2023 by the looks of it. Gold has moved ~10% in the last week, and some stocks moved less than that - some are even flat!

Good observation, I thiink they always have a project which will start producing in two years, then the money will come. Investors have realized that I never happens. We just hope the stocks will occilate up and down and then we expect to dump the gold miners to other gamblers who are more stupid than us.

Surely, good mining management has notice the systematic smack downs in spot and mining shares frequently around FED manip speak and Fake/ later revised back without the same fanfare, Hathaway sees this discount...for other reasons 👍

I must admit I dont see any cheap gold miner based on free cash flow and PE perhaps with the exception of Lundin Gold. I am not surprised that this sector is dumped by younger investors and perhaps the current link between gold price and stock prices are the right ratio in the future.

All the mining stocks have been diluted by sales of shares. Production is down to flat and the miners are having to process double the ore because yields have dropped!

It should be noted that Pan American increased its share count by a whopping 75% in 2023. Also these buybacks are not guaranteed..
