Two heavy weights of the classical world face off in a brutal fight to the death! Each army is led by three generals with specific troops under their command. Success rests not only on individual bravery but also on a well coordinated army

I love these Ancient battles, where bravery and courage and prowess in arms played more part than anything else, and the armies fielded were usually the same type of forces and possessed almost equal technologies. Valor in the field, strength of sinew, skill in arms, and of course, the brilliance and cunning of the generals, these could decide the outcome of the battle.

+THFE Productions I'd love to see a Sub-Commaders siege battle! I know they're more difficult to organise and film but they're definitely the most entertaining to watch. Also I'd love to see you try a novel strategy like your computer ally did in one siege match where they brought the siege tower into the city. Maybe use it as mobile cover from skirmishers while you get close to the front lines?

FINALLY!!! some historic battles ! well done ! love the sub commander setup, even though no solid, deep battle lines. Reminds me of old "Great Battles of .." game series. how about doing Roman manipular V Carthage, where each subcommander commands each battle line - hastati & velites - Princeps - Triarii & Eques (aristocratic). try to retire Hastati through gaps in princeps, to re-engage later ?
@FlyingDragoon8
@FlyingDragoon8 9 жыл бұрын
+RemusKingOfRome5 As wonderful as the idea of "retiring" soldiers through lines...even if you charge in the principes...the Hastati will take a ton of losses in back stabs. Though it would be cool to see, but an army that does a charge/retreat/rest/charge system usually will take unnecessary losses in this game. Maybe the continual charges will make up for that though.

I really like the sub commander type of videos. It seems more like how actual battles would be handled. Not perfect, but closer to it than six separate armies fighting near each other. One thing that was very nice was the back and forth, the fall back from a bad position and reforming to join the fight on better terms. Loved to see that!

Royal Spartans are OP in this game. I remember playing against the AI I tied up one unit of Royal Spartans by engaging them from the front with three infantry units. I hit them in the back with lance cav at least three times and it barely shook them, which is ridiculous. Even if the men WANT to stand and die and refuse to rout, the sheer impact of nearly 100 heavy lance cav hitting them in their undefended backs would be absolutely devastating to any inf from any point in history. Spartans were good warriors yes, but they weren't supermen. The weight of horse and rider is going to fuck you up. Oakley is right; the way to defeat these guys is to shred them with skirmishers then mop up the survivors

Fantastic battle! Nice work Oakley, that was super epic and it makes it better because its like something straight out of the Peloponnesian War. If you are going to do another Sub commander video, and I hope you do, you should do a battle between the Romans and some sort of Barbarian faction like the Suebi or Iceni. Put that into a forest and that would be amazing. Anyway nice job and I look forward to just about anything you post.

Awesome battle! I love the sub commanders series, the tactics seem more realistic somehow. Can you do 4v4 battles on Rome 2? Because if you can, you can divide the sub commanders into right flank, left flank, center and reserves, much like how it was done in real life. Maybe you can even have different factions allied with each other, like Greeks vs Celts, that would be fun.

Pretty good man! Athens faired quite well, even though you lost against Sparta! Will you be doing a Sub-Commander video for a Thermopylae style battle as well? If so, the Heroes of Sparta would be better for the main pass the Persians had to go through, since they are almost equal in stats to the Royal Spartans, & even surpass them in certain stats. Plus, you can get far more Heroes of Sparta. 2 Royal Spartans units cost 2500 to recruit 320 units, but 3 Heroes of Sparta cost 2850 to recruit 360 units. Granted, 3 Heroes of Sparta cost more, but you also get more units to use too...

That pan in min 7 is crazy awesome. Great video. So here's an idea and I'm not sure if this sounds interesting but what you o sub commanders with a fourth person in echo team as an overall general and he could have the just the general unit and he could tell the others what to do and then the sub commanders can chooses how to do it. Not sure on the fine details of how that would work but if that sounds interesting try it out.

Nice battle, though I would have enjoyed it more if you were playing it in real time, so I could see and hear you coordinate with your allies, because its hard to follow the action with the way you move the camera. You tend to point out that something interesting is about to happen then move the camera before it even happens, and its just frustrating.

Imagine an ancient Greek hoplite coming to 2016 to play this game (provided he was explained what is a computer, what is a computer game - not hard for these geniuses to grasp). In the first round he would actually lose since he would be applying the real life strategies, not necessarily being compatible with the game due to real life intrinsic details. However, once he would realise the actual wiring of the game, he would be unbeatable.
