Welcome back to Sub Commanders! This series blends the command structure of Arena with the scale of massive battles. This time we pit the famous roman legions against the armies of Carthage.

The best thing about the videos on this channel is that Oakley is just as enthusiastic when he is losing as when he is winning. Nice historical references too.

Taha Ouali a great idea every total war player can make teams with friends to compete with others on tournaments (if that might happen i want to compete) that will make it exciting even if exocuting that idea would be nearly impossible :(

This video is an example for people who call youtube a professionalism, this is it, if youtubers would do only half the work that Oakley does with these vidoes, then youtube would be the best place on earth for people who love to watch professional videos about anything they want to watch. Great video, keep up the good work!

I've always enjoyed watching youtubers play the total war series, especially now when my computer is broken and I need that strategy cathartic release. However over the last week of watching your Sub Commanders and Massive battles series I've become a huge fan and you are probably my favorite total war youtuber now. Keep both of those series up!!!

Hopefully I'll get my computer fixed/replaced within time to participate sometime. Your tactics are really quite good it is impressive to watch. Also want to show some love for your historical documentary series. It is clear you put a lot of effort into those and they are fun and educational.

This video was awesome! Have you read any of Martin Tessmer's Scipio Africanus saga? In 4/5 historic novels he follows the second punic war, in particular Cornelius Scipios career and the politics behind it. A really good read full of references and quotes from many historians such as livy. You might really enjoy. Hope you are well.

I would really like to see napoleon or empire subcommander. Think of the battle of zorndorf in 1758 during the 7yw when von Seydlitz disobeyed the order of frederick the great and waited for the perfect moment to charge with his cavalry

Roman Legions, under good commanders, were very effective. They were arguably the best close-quarter soldiers of their time and with their pila (1 or 2) they could slaughter pikemen, and javelinmen. They could fight and skirmish. Not to mention the typically brilliant tactics and formations. The testudo made sieges very easy and battles against missile heavy forces easier. And this battle only proved Roman steel!

Syrian archers are not polybian Roman. Also take your guys out of formation attack they will perform better
@Normacly8 жыл бұрын
+Chat Sh*t Get Gaming Romans regularly used Syrian archers as auxiliaries when they ruled parts of Syria for a good few centuries. The problem of course is that the Empire was formed much later after the last (3rd) Punic War. Still, a good deal of Syrian soldiers also became mercenaries either when they deserted or were decommissioned. Also, the "out of formation" only applies mainly to sword infantries. Hoplites and pikes are very good in formation since their main objective is to hold the enemy rather than advance.
@dandogamer8 жыл бұрын
***** Im not saying syrians weren't used but just saying they were used much later. And they would have not been as heavily armed at this point in history. Also i agree with formation attack on pikes but not for hoplites because formation attack contracts the formation and makes it very easy for the enemy to outflank which can be seen in this video.
