Maple's suggestion about contrast as a conscious choice for pacing, along with Arianna's thoughts on the cinematic tropes of sink vomit, got me thinking. I saw video around here of some animators competing to make the most unsatisfying animation. Imagine a horror or horror-comedy scene where you tease multiple horror tropes (like throwing up a stranger things pollywog) but hold short. You might be able to build tension by signaling what's coming, but still surprise the audience with when you pull the trigger on a jump scare. It might be useful to paint some anxiety into the a scene of a story. It would probably get tiring quick, but maybe a tasty spice in small doses.

I agree with what you mean with the high school drama storyline between Amber and Mark feeling very slow paced and drawn out when everything else in the show is going at 100. I kinda felt bored by the end of that and there was no real conclusion to it. All the other moving pieces and storylines are super interesting. Angstrom Levy is a game changer with his Rick and Morty portals.

You guys are so weird. You say you don't "like the relationship stuff" but are here rooting for Mark being with Eve. You guys have this specific animosity towards Amber, since the first season, and can't seem to accept she's written differently this season and haven't let that go since this season started. This story arc is actually VERY normal for two college students who know the inevitable is coming but are both trying not to hurt each other in the process. You can't seem to look beyond anything other than "this relationship is boring me." You don't want to give credence to these two and how very mature they are for their age because, in real life, most guys wouldn't be this caring. Put yourself in Amber's shoes for one second. This animosity thing is just getting too old at this point and perhaps you should look deep within as to what's bothering y'all about her.

because it’s an actual relationship. in tv shows they make it look so easy to break up. instead mark and amber really like each other and want the relationship to work out so they’re trying to figure out a way to do that. obviously in the end it doesn’t work out but i like the way they did it.

I’ve found I really the “characters in different conversations completing each other’s sentences” trope. I’ve always hating scenes that do that and I feel like the Amber-Eve & Mark-Art conversations are one of the worst versions of it. I’m blanking on the one scene that I really enjoyed it because the people weren’t exactly finishing each others sentences but instead just completing the same idea in their own words. When it’s word for word like this episode has, it always feels corny as hell.

Amber was always a shitty character in the comics and in the tv show i feel like a writer thought that they could "fix" it when it didnt need to be fixed. Amber is just a shitty person and her purpose was to make mark realize he can't have a normal relationship.

I've been spoiled on where this relationship stuff leads too but I think this is still a very organic way for this to go down. I wonder what about her makes her shitty to you though.
