The "I think I miss my wife" works just that much better being read out by a voice actor. I've always really liked Nolan's story, and this adaptation is doing a really good job with it.

Fun fact about this episode to make it even better: in the comic book Kirkman wrote an actual invincible/spiderman crossover where Mark meets some of the Avengers. They made a knockoff spiderman for the show because of copyright reasons. Although the knock off spiderman is voiced by Josh Keaton. The original VA of the spectacular spiderman cartoon. Another thing, when mark jumps out of the portal to hit Amstrong he hits him with a Fortnite gun, meaning Invincible went to the fortnite universe. A reference to the fact that Invincible was added to Fortnite.

Where is this crossover people keep talking about? It's not in the published comic book. There's a very brief, copyright neutral reference.

Not sure if you noticed, but Bootleg Spider-man is actually played by a veteran Spidey VA, Josh Keaton, most notably from Spectacular Spider-Man!

And in the original comics they actually used the real spiderman and Doc Ock. Since the show doesn't have the rights for them they had to improvise.

6:50 I would agree that both readings can be true. That Mark was talking about Angstrom and himself. A big part of his worry this season was that he would slip into being like his dad (or as we the audience know, MOST Marks across the multiverse). Killing Angstrom (just like he did in basically every other dimension) serves to further his spiral of self doubt, as he had hoped he was stronger (better) than that.

Just remember with Nolan that all these feelings are brand new. Feelings in general are new to him. I won’t spoil things for the future of the show but from what has been said, he’s only known the viltrum way of everyone else is a lesser being and anything but the mission doesn’t matter. Debbie and mark made such an impact on him that it broke thousands of years of conditioning. The end of season 1 was him trying to push aside these feelings and complete his mission like a true viltrumite but he couldn’t. Mark broke through yet again. Nolan was a monster, yes. But he’s not a monster at heart. He was molded into a monster by the way his people are brought up

With future Eve. Yes Mark was in a horrible headspace to take in her confession. However she'd lived for twenty years loving him hoping everyday that he'd find a way back home regretting that she'd never told Mark how much she had loved him. Her along with the guardians never gave up trying to find him. and on finding him they might change their timrline so that was her one and only time to tell Mark so she can relive those sad years instead with Mark and love or not live in false hope and sadness.

This is wonderfully and compassionately put. During my edit I was like- wow, I really came for her, didn’t I? 😂 I think I was just feeling sassy and silly but I absolutely see her side of that situation. I hope her confession lends to Mark & Eve getting together soon. I think they would make the perfect couple 🥹

Loved season 2 and all its surprises and developments. "I think I miss my wife" got me so fired up not only because OF COURSE YOU DO NOLAN DEBBIE IS THE BEST but it's a genuine change from thinking of her as a pet. We're starting to see Nolan acknowledge what he's done to everyone and left them with the fallout. Mark has been through so much these two seasons, I really hope there's some superhero therapy he can go to. Therapy and a fucking vacation. So excited for season 3, because I know we're not slowing down anytime soon!

Eve failing to seek therapy to move on in a healthy way for 20 years doesn't really make her performing an (probably unintentionally) emotionally manipulative move on someone at one of their weakest points just because it makes her feel better more acceptable.

I loved that older eve did that. because it shows how much she really loves him. i mean she lived with this for 20 years and probably just wanted that her younger self doesn’t have to go through the same pain. that even if he doesn’t feel the same way(he does) she can move on and live. I mean she looks extremely devastated, I get that she wants to give herself a chance to change her own life

I think Future Eve had every right to confess then and there. Given her lived experience and the fact that her timeline might cease to exist when he steps through that portal home, she definitely thought she may never get another chance to tell him. If not for her past self, she did it for herself. I cant imagine 20 years of hell holding onto that hope of seeing him again. I respect that she told him explicitly “you don’t have to love her back, but tell her SOMETHING.” Aside from that tho, I WANT THEM TOGETHER, they’re blue and pink!!!! Cotton candy couple!!! And they just look really good and work well with each other, Eve’s always been there for Mark and Mark is the nicest guy Eve knows in her life.

I'm actually a really big fan of older Eve telling Mark she loves him. To me, it's an example of what the show does best: Every character has their own full life and story going on around them completely separate from what we're seeing as we follow Mark. That Eve has lived with this sadness and regret for 20 years and you could tell that her confession was something she NEEDED. We've followed characters elsewhere in media and art where we've seen similar situations. The only thing is we didn't follow this Eve. But even without that we understand how she's feeling. Her confession is selfish, but it's also human. And the contrast between this Eve looking at Mark with 20 years of regret and this Mark who just broke up with Amber and can't even begine addressing such an emotion is kind of beautifully broken.

the double meanings in so many lines of this show is what really makes this series' writing sing. Eve saying 'you don't deserve this' to Mark, where she means you don't deserve these things that have happened to you, but he hears her saying that he doesn't deserve to be happy, Mark's iconic 'I thought you were stronger' line, and now Mark's exchange from Episode 1 has a THIRD layer of meaning, the original insecurity of Mark wanting to be a hero like how he sees his father, the second one from the season 1 finale where we learn what Nolan meant when he said 'you will be', and finally Mark's new insecurities of being afraid that he will end up being like his Father without even realizing it (the parallels of Mark straddling Angstrom to beat the shit out of him vs. Nolan straddling mark from the first finale were definitely very intentional). Not only is almost no line of dialogue wasted in this show, many of them are pulling double duty and gaining more and more meaning the longer we sit with and learn about the characters who say them.

In my opinion Angstrom threw any chance at being a sympathetic character out the window when he threatened Oliver Since he said it himself Oliver wasn’t in any other universe So he didn’t do anything wrong And since he did t show an ounce of doubt when hurting him he’s pure evil

See you whenever he says I thought you were stronger I think the writers are cleverly giving you two different meanings So the first is obviously yes Levi he thought was strong enough to take a hard beating However, I think he’s referring more to himself Mark I thought you were stronger than this. I thought you were better than your dad, but you’re not you’re not any better than your dad or any other Viltrumite

Angstrom was a man who had great power and wanted to use it for great good but he dreamed too big and the hate for Invincible from his alternative selfies were too much, even if he hadn’t took the helmet off during the process all the trauma that came with those memories would’ve slowly but surely drove him to this madness with even the mere sight or mention of Invincible being enough to trigger them

As a comic reader I'm surprised at how down for a Nolan redemption tv viewers are. The Chicago disaster was way more brutal and explicitly showed kids being killed, I honestly thought there might be making bigger changes than there have been. The show has been very faithful to the spirit of the original story, rather than the details.

When Mark said “I thought you were stronger”, he meant that he thought Angstrom was stronger because he said that doctors from other dimensions rebuilt and strengthened his body. Mark didn’t know that he could be killed so easily. It’s kind of ironic in a tragic sense when you think about it, it being that Angstrom made one of the few good Marks in the entire multiverse into a killer.
