I think Gus has the right point, invincible is a very different animal to the boys. I’d liken it more to something like venture bros, a pseudo satire that still unapologetically revels in, and clearly has a soft spot for, all the absurd logic and tropes of its inspirations.

Season 2 was a fantastic set-up season. I almost wish they waited to release it alongside season 3 just because everything introduced here has its pay-offs in the upcoming events. (EDIT1) Also, just a quick note on the stalactite impalement comment: Nolan wasn't able to pierce his opponent's skin with the stalactite, he had to use his own body as a weapon first to make a wound that he could then shove the rock through, and even then it turned out that it didn't do much. (EDIT2) Another note on the comment that nobody died in the Lizard League fight: Kate died, and that became the pushing point that changes 2 characters (Rex and Immortal). So I wouldn't say that nothing happened because of it.

Agreed with all of this assessment. I think (provided that season 3 can continue this level of quality) that this season will get better with age once it gets sandwiched between seasons 1 and 3.
@davidumann67077 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason people hate Amber is that the narrative itself treats her as being in the right. With Nolan, it's clear as day that he's the villain, and he's going to have to own up to his mistakes to even begin to redeem himself. But Amber is never going to apologize, because the writers don't think she has to. Mark and Amber's relationship was like "Mark messed up big time, but the pure hearted Amber forgave him and taught him a valuable lesson" rather than "they didn't communicate well but worked throug their issues".
@PotatoPatatoVonSpudsworth7 ай бұрын
In classic superhero/shonen media, the second season's finale would have been depicted as a moment of triumph. Think about it: the maniacal villain was getting the upper hand, until the hero reflected on his desire to defend the people he loved and turned the tables, displaying his true power, allowing him to suddenly render the villain helpless and finish them off. Invincible takes this oft-used narrative and forces us to ask how the hero's violence differs from the villain's. It's just as brutal and awful, the only difference is the justification used.

Haven't watched Invincible but to make another comparison to Anime, Invincible (from the impression I get from the discourse/spoilers) feels like Hunter X Hunter in the sense that everyone frames it like this deconstruction of a genre but it's just part of that genre and sure it has some elements that are twists on tropes within the genre (like invincibles excess violence as an example) but if you seriously look at it and it's contemporaries it's just a story that does more interesting things than the others but it's still a similar show
@IkeOkerekeNews7 ай бұрын
Invincible is a reconstruction not a deconstruction. And better for it imo.
@iantaakalla81806 ай бұрын
Also, Hunter X Hunter is a deconstruction, but not one born of the need to take something down but in an unflinching commitment to follow consequences through, like for example Gon’s mindset and why that would leave him without powers. It is not trying to be set apart from battle shounen or have disdain from battle shounen, it just recognizes exploring long-term consequences.

i feel like the heroes wouldn't get DOMINATED all the time if they like, trained properly. in their training, is all they're doing throwing punches? they should try learning martial arts so that their powers can compliment their skill instead of just brute forcing it with their powers. like, Mark keeps punching his enemy further away from him, which is a bad move, because it gives them recovery time, and breaks your combo. what you wanna do is find a way to keep your enemy close to you so you can wham on them, while avoiding taking unnecessary risks. AKA, he runs towards his enemy, when he should be making his enemy run to him so he can react. grapples are a great move when you're in close range too.

Season 2’s teasing of character deaths (Allen and the Red Wedding Cake) felt weird to me. Why does everyone assume criticism of how badly Amber was written in season one is due to her being black? Season 1, Ep 6, our merry band of teenagers are getting attacked by Doug "reanamen" Cheston. Marc has to disappear from the fight to change into Invincible. After the fight ends, Amber asks, "Who is that?" Marc returns as himself and Amber accuses Marc of being a coward because he abandoned them as if a normal human being could have done something against a cyborg. Guess they don't have Terminator in their universe. Next episode, Marc finally tells her he's Invincible and she says she knows he's a superhero. WTF!!??? She came off as the potential crazy ex girlfriend at that point trying to gaslight our superhero for not paying enough attention to her while he was out "Saving the world" to quote something she kept saying throughout the entire season. If they had kept her as a blue eyed blond as in the comics, the fan reaction would have been the same or even more intense. Kirkman even acknowledged somewhat they screwed up Amber which is why she was much better written in season two. But it hard to come back from how bad she came off in the first season. You need to watch LongBeachGriffy's parody skit to understand.

@@royaloreo1275 Sometimes you grow a tolerance. I like Throne of Glass. It’s a YA fantasy romance series. The prose of those books is very repetitive and the descriptions are broad and unhelpful at times. I still enjoy the characters, fight scenes, and how well-put-together the story is, and I’ll probably keep enjoying it and other S.J.M. books. Black Summoner is basically a “Great Value Isekai” that’s free on my library’s Hoopla. Everything about this story-the characters, world-building, and action-is just passable and it’s been fun to dissect. However, in Volume 3, a 14-year-old character is introduced. She wears “armor” that covers everything except her vital organs, clearly for THOSE reasons. Do I drop the series because the author is showing too much of their ass, or do I tolerate it because it was already mid to begin with, and the rest of the series is fine-not at all great, just passable. Is it worth the effort to have an opinion?
