A video essay about this masterpiece by Kore-eda. It was an absolute joy to analyze the film.
First attempt at a video essay, so we hope you enjoy it.

As the story wrapped up, every character faced and conquered their trials. Yet, Yuri in a poignant turn, had to return to the shadows of her abusive past. In the closing scene, a subtle desire for rescue lingered in her gaze.

Wait I interpret the scene as she's about to jump from the balcony.

I have been thinking about this film a lot recently, even though I watched it almost 2 years ago. It's growing to be one of my favourite films ever

Its not about invisibility, it's about happily living completely outside of society norms. Despite the films ludicrous flaws (eg the kids shoplifting scene doesn't even make sense) it still resonates for me, because of the outside/ underworld theme in gentle Japan, more than any other film. For that alone I can say it's the best film I've ever seen.

Sorry for never responding, but I genuinely have no idea lol. Not in the mood to become a highlight channel (even with the amount of money you can make with it), nor am I personally interesting enough to actually create something. Soooo... for now it's a bit of a public dumping grounds hahaha
