I knit English combination, my stitches are naturally oriented like you showed so that will definitely make it easier when I try this. I have a few projects I would like to do with double knitting, now I just have to finish the projects I'm working on.

I haven’t seen anything pertaining to the cast off in any of the videos I’ve watched on this subject. I’m afraid to start a project until I know how that all works. That separation of the two yarns is a revelation:)! Thank you

The cast on edge looks so much better than what I first tried. I’m a lever knitter so hold both in my right hand but still make that V. Double knitting is like learning to knit all over again! I’m going to do what I teach… just plain knit a whole small ball of yarn (or in this case two) before switching colours and making a pattern. I need to get the feel. Thanks Coach 😊

Your using a white yarn against a white background. If TA hard to see what your doing. You also didn’t knit to end of roe to show how to do a smooth selvage and then dropping the double stitch.

When knitting in the round with this cast on method, do you join in the round right away, or do you do the initial “set up” row where you’re untwisting your stitches and then join in the round?
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 2 жыл бұрын
If it was me, I would join right away. Mainly because I continue to double knit with “twisted” stitches. You can see this in this video as I hold both colors in my left hand: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWGpYY1pdpasgpI I knit through the back loop and purl in an anti-clockwise direction. Hope that makes sense. 😁

I just started your Tree of Gondor blanket and when I come to the end of the first row should I unravel the slip knot?
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 Ай бұрын
The answer to that question depends on whether you counted the beginning two strands of yarn in your slip knot as part of the count for the cast on. If you included them, then you would not slip it out, but instead use the two strands as part of your next row. If you did not include them in the cast on count, then you will need to slip it out. 😁

What’s the Congo or whatever method you did? Why knit in the back loop to orientate? Is there a different cast on that’s correct from the start?
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 2 ай бұрын
Combo knitting is basically winding the yarn in a clockwise direction when purling and a counter clockwise direction when knitting. You can do the same cast on as in the video, but wind the yarn counter clockwise for the purl stitches and it will be oriented differently.

Plse tell me, if I want to knit a cap in the round with 144 sts but I am double knitting, do I need to cast on double that amount of stitches?
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 2 ай бұрын
You are correct! Since double knitting is basically knitting two side of fabric at once, you’ll need double the amount of stitches. Be sure to do a swatch to make sure your hat will fit perfectly! 😉

@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 Жыл бұрын
It’s really up to you whether you want to keep the Slip Knot as part of your stitch count. I do, but some designers do it differently. Just be sure if you decide not to include it, that you do not knit into those stitches on your first row. You can skip them and then pull out the knot when weaving in your ends.

I tried this method casting on 260 stitches, but while working on row 1 I ended up with a massive amount of slack in between my two needles to the point where it was unmanageable and I ended up dropping stitches. Does this happen to you? Am I doing something wrong that's causing it?
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165
@donielleshowvaytheknitting165 Жыл бұрын
This can happen if your cast on is too loose. One way to combat this is to use a couple needle sizes smaller than the body of your double knitting. For instance, if the pattern calls for size US2 needles, you can go down to size US0 needles just for the cast on row. This also helps with the common “flare” that can happen at the beginning of double knitting.

Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. May I make suggestions … 1- for a better visual understanding, using a worsted weight yarn would help. 2- best results are obtained by using contrasting colors but for a tutorial, maybe light color needles would also help.

Any newbies watching, DO NOT COPY THIS VIDEO! SHE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT SHE DOING! You must have only been knitting in total of your life for 1 hour! If that! Your very first purl stitch you did the correct way way, counter clock wise! The rest where you tried to show off, you're wrapping it clockwise, thus twisting the stitch each time! Then there's your choice of yarn to demonstrate! Why didn't you use dental floss, it's even thinner, or sewing thread to make even harder to see if that's what you were trying to do!!!!🤨🙄 So it can be seen clearer, use at least a Double Knit weight yarn!

Sorry you didn’t enjoy the video. The way I twist the yarn is purposeful in order to allow for less movement in the yarn when holding it Continental and using combination knitting to do this double knitting technique. I apologize for the thin yarn I used. I am a professional knitter but I don’t claim to be a professional videographer.

Why did you go on the attack at the outset? You could have brought your point across without all that drama and the insults. Everyone does the best they an with what they have, with what they know and with their particular skill set. If you didn't enjoy the video, or you felt it didn't give you what you needed to know, you could have asked a question or moved on. There are so many other tutorials, I am sure you would have found what ypu were looking for elsewhere. And if your knitting is so very outstanding and you're an expert videographer, then by all means go ahead and make your own videos and help those of us still navigating this world. Please. And I hope that those viewing are kinder to you than you have been here. Love and light to you❤
