Chad was first homeless at 9 years old. His mom lost the house they were living in, so they moved into their car. After a few years of living between vehicles and homeless shelters with his mother, Chad ended back on the streets homeless at 11 years old. Chad got into am trouble and was placed into foster care, then at 13 he ran away, and he has been homeless ever since. Chad is now 28, having spent most of his life homeless.
Chad says, "I don't like being homeless, but that's what I mainly know." Chad has gotten used to homelessness. He's really known knowing else.
When people see a homeless person like Chad in Venice Beach, they don't know the backstory of how that person became homeless. Venice has always been a party city ever since Abbot Kinney founded Venice of America in 1905. Thousands of people, many of them artists, are attracted to the beach community for its Bohemian lifestyle. Like Chad, many are not living outside by choice. Life circumstances often childhood trauma push a person into homelessness. Once on the streets, it's extremely hard to get out.
Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of on the shortage of affordable housing, gainful employment, living wages, childhood trauma, or countless other reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness and poverty, as public sentiment affects public policy.
Some people hold onto the false belief that homelessness is a result of a person's bad choices. Chad's never had a chance to be a child or an adult. He's never had a job. Chad doesn't even own a pair of shoes. No one is going to hire Chad. There is a very good chance that Chad will spend the rest of his life homeless, dying outside at some point. But you can help change that.
Your voice can help end homelessness. If we do not fix the affordable housing crisis, homelessness will continue to get worse. Click here invisiblepeopl... to tweet, email, call, or Facebook your federal and state legislators to tell them ending homelessness and creating more affordable housing is a priority to you.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, a living wage or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.
Invisible People is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about homelessness through innovative storytelling, news, and advocacy. Since our launch in 2008, Invisible People has become a pioneer and trusted resource for inspiring action and raising awareness in support of advocacy, policy change and thoughtful dialogue around poverty in North America and the United Kingdom.

I get what your saying but not really, He just had a family that didn't really care about him much, it doesn't give you the right to unleash your anger on everybody else though. But I'm gonna pray that God gives him the strength to survive out there and that someone can come and help him to get off the streets. Because it's just not safe, a lot of people treat homeless people pretty harsh, and rob their stuff. Lord, we intercede for those that do not have shelter of their own. Lord, bless them with protection from the elements, bless them to have sufficiency of food and clothing, bless them with joy and peace of the mind. We know you are able to protect your people and supply our every need. give him the strength to get off the streets, so he can have a house, wife, children and a Job to feed his family. In your Name Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

We are ALL a product of our environment. We cannot be "fake" bc the way we act and respond is a learned behavior to survive - much like his response when he sleeps. I think that his view of helping others, the earth, and the future for humanity is commendable but is based on his unfortunate experiences. The beaches are his home which is why he mentioned that he wants to make efforts to clean it. Trash because that's what he sees being his main source of nourishment and housing, well I think that's obvious. You judge people for being "fake" but again, this is all a coping mechanism or a survival method. Even though someone may have lots of money, it doesn't mean they have a perfect happy life. We are all dealing with something - some more than others. You could learn something from this homeless man: be a little less judgmental.

@2BuckGeo it is more complicated than this. Someone who has been homeless practically in his whole life needs rehabilitation. I mean even if he would get a job, not sure he could keep it. His situation is comparable to people who leave the prison system after a very long period of time. So it is not impossible in my view, but it is very difficult. @@mndeni4729 people like this get given chances and they repeatedly screw it up. Oregon has great systems in place for the homeless, yet theyre all still homeless. Drugs, alcohol, etc play a major role in the outcome of a homeless persons life. You could literally hand this guy 5 grand and a place to live, guaranteed he would go through the money quickly and still have nothing in life. It is sad but true. I grew up in Oregon, there are lots of very genuinely nice people who are homeless. Many of them choose the lifestyle, or will never successfully get out of it because of drugs and alcohol. Rehab doesn't work, really what they need is for someone to actually take care of them like a child, and give them zero money. My father was like this, he never could make it on his own, but if he had someone in the family take him in and manage all his money, he did fine.

Adult survivors of childhood sexual assault - in order to survive such trauma the brain creates different neurological pathways. Damage. This affects every single organ in the body, not just the brain & that includes receptors in the spine. These pathways are permanent & cause individuals to "grow up" into stunted adults. @TheHumanSpeciesIsAPlague NotMeantToBeInExistence that's a terrible generalization to make; homeless men do get abused and sexually trafficked, but its society's preconceived notions about their character and “male tendencies” that make it difficult to ever come out, have their experiences known or acknowledged, and later get the help they need. You're forgetting that homeless men, like this gentleman (who broke his nose trying to learn to fight and look out for himself on the street), deal with physical confrontations solely because, as men, they have to prove their "strength" and "endurance" (even though, muscle power is the last thing that should be on their mind). And while satistically it is true that homeless women deal disproportionately with cases of sexual abuse living on the street, by saying that homeless men are their female counterpart's only molesters and abusers you further perpetuate the stereotype that men are always, or need to be, the "strongest" when they are as vulnerable just in different ways. PLEASE DO NOT UNDERMINE SOMEONE’S STRUGGLE SIMPLY BECAUSE OTHER’S HAVE IT WORSE. Homeless individuals, men and female, are part of a marginalized group with unmet needs-- regardless of men’s masculinity-- and it is not your job to decide who gets help or not based on generalized perceptions you attribute to or blame on sex. If you fail to see the radiant person he is in the way he speaks and carries himself, or take into account the three self-less wishes for his community and humanity even in spite of their ignorance and his own helplessness, know that it is you are blinded by your sweeping generalizations and biases; he has nothing to apologize for

@mahnoorkhan7845 3 жыл бұрын
@@fanoor2427 even if he wasnt abused, any assessment of the situation not factual or based only our whilsical perceptions of others is unacceptable. If this man did in fact abuse other homeless women, it would be equally unfair to generalize that the vast majority of other homeless men do too; its the same as associating terrorism with religious symbols (or, similarly, calling everyone that doesnt voluntarily denounce or dissociate from extreme beliefs, fundamentalists). Its ironic that even though the aim of channels like this is to educate people and rid them of the many base-less and stereotypical assumptions that surround homelessness as well as remind them of the sensitivity of this subject, there are often people that still go on to suggest that there can only be one reality.

But you bought it hook line and sinker. That is how he survives and gets through life. Manipulating people like you. He is very clever. You are enabling his behavior. The guy is smart and very capable of making an honest living. But morons like you enable his behavior. This guy could run a company. But why when people like you give him everything for free? Me too I used to hate seeing animal rescues when we have people like this on the street. But then I realize animals aren't as cunniving as humans can be. Theres been a lot of situations where people take advantage of and have even killed people who took them in. So I understand why its not as easy to help them out.

@icewall flatearth He just said he has No I.D. ! Do you realize you have to have ID to enter a lot of homeless shelters? Much less, actually get services? People that have severe trauma get mentally trapped in 'survival mode' because they've never felt safe enough to think about a future when all they've had is just literally surviving and not dying that one day for so long, do not say he is 'free' or 'got it made' when if his trauma wasn't present his life today would probably look nothing like this nor be his choice

icewall flatearth I don’t believe I heard him say he is on any government assistance. He did say he doesn’t have an ID. He seems to be a smart individual and he could obtain an ID if he had some help. That is if he wants help. He isn’t asking for anything though so it seems he is ok with his circumstances for now. He is still very young. I guess when he is ready he will do what he needs to do for himself.

icewall flatearth He didn’t say anything about being on any of the services you mention. Are you sure it’s common practice and automatic? If it is as easy as you say it is then maybe you can share with some homeless people that may not know themselves or have the info that you have.
