This is the first time I’m hearing him. After the initial shock of his chops I started to hear a little Jaco, a little Patitucchi, even some Neils Orsted. But this guy really has the solo fluidity of Bird or Diz. And yes the content. Phenomenal.

+sam ferguson He's such a beast man!!! It's really intense as a bassist to see him play .... the content is even crazier than the speed indeed. It just seems like anything is available to him! What an amazing musician !

Alright there are some confused people in here. You will never learn this language in church, idc where you go, even if one of the musicians at church knows the jazz language they’ll most likely never use it to its full potential like they would at an actual jazz gig. If you want to actually learn this language I’d suggest transcribing people who speak it (like hadrien) and practicing this language. Cory Henry for example is a church musician but he did not learn the jazz language from church, I gaurantee that, but from personal experience I would say that church is a great way to develops a feel for music so when you go into the jazz world you’ll already kind of be ahead in a way

Maybe we should cut the guy some slack. He's still young. Hopefully he'll read this thread and think about his zillion-notes-a-minute approach.

You can hear the same sounds if you stand very close to a beehive. This is self indulgent note per second nonsense.
@marike1100

And some people will always be clapping on one and three squares. There is nothing self-indulgent about this music called jazz, it has brought joy to millions for a hundred years. Just like bees, some don't understand what they are listening to.😂

John McLaughlin is right: this guy simply cannot accept to play at a volume that is matched to the rest of the band. Painful to hear.
@hugobassvideos
@hugobassvideos 8 жыл бұрын
he says that?
@labdrive
@labdrive 8 жыл бұрын
+Hugo FF Yes. He said that after discussing the question of excessive stage volume many times with Feraud to no avail, he had no choice but to fire him. And it isn't too difficult to understand after watching this -and many other- videos featuring Feraud: it almost always sound like "Hadrien Feraud and the background noise's band."

Curious story, didn't know that. But your thought is a little bit odd in this context to me, because we're not hearing this though one camera mic. It's a recording, so the bass so forward in the mix is a decision of the sound guy, and the musicians Too. And It's a bass solo thing, so to me it's not so weird. Curious stuff though
@labdrive
@labdrive 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, right. Like it was the first time McLaughlin was playing with a good bassist, so he was scared to be upstaged. LOL! Mr McLaughlin has been a recording artist for over 50 years, using many different acoustic, electric and electronic instruments, and you talk about "his tone....drenched in chorus...."; HIS tone? his ONE tone, really?

Not interesting at all, music is not "olympic games", this bass player is maybe good technician but where is the Music ? It doesn't breath, no space, plenty of notes, where is the musicality ? Good technician doesn't mean good musician, big difference !... What did Peter Erskine (dm) & John Beasley (kbds) do with this E.T. of the bass ? This bass player really doesn't have his place with these masters of music, there is only one Jaco ...
@brandonvu5429
@brandonvu5429 7 жыл бұрын
Completely disagree. Maybe you just heard constant 16th notes and just assumed it was all fret wanking? Or maybe your ear isn't trained enough to comprehend it? Because I hear a lot of forward musical direction in his lines and I have been nothing but engaged. Sure, they aren't as cool or as fresh as Jaco, but I hear Hadrien Feraud and Hadrien Feraud only.

No, I don't have "wooden ears" and my ears are completely trained & opened because I play & study music since 50 years ! I play and have studied piano (classical) & drums at Conservatory, I listen to all kind of music (except Rap & Metal) ... I don't know how old you are, certainly younger than me ! There are two kinds of musicians : Those who use music for playing their instruments (the bad) and those who use their instruments for playing & making music (the good), that's it ! I'm not sure that this bass player will be still famous in several years, there are plenty like him, playing fast ! Peter Erskine & John Beasley are Masters, they compose & produce music, big difference ! Peter & John are demanded by thousand of musicians in the world, not H. Feraud, another big difference !
