Try increasing your denoising strength.

@@TheCritterPeddler This example/technique is using SDXL. With Flux, you'll want to try closer to .99

@@invokeai to get to the point, I am using exactly the steps you've shown. the custom xl from civit, the low opacity gray colours, the high denoise (0.95) and even the same scheduler. I'm not sure why flat colours remain flat colours. I even triple checked :(
