I can honestly say that Will Hall helped save my life. I read Robert Whitaker, listened to Will Hall, downloaded the Phoenix Guide for Tapering Psych Drugs, and ended a 30 year psych journey with tapering, and eventually (took 3 years to come off 4 drugs) freedom. For tapering guidance, I signed up to Surviving Antidepressants, where I still sometimes work to this day. Thank you Will, for all that you do. Thank you for affirming that inner states do not equal madness. Thank you for your humanity. I know I'm only one of the people who can say this about Will - I'm sure there are hundreds, if not thousands.

I appreciate this as I've been through the system 6 times. I disagree very strongly about romanticising these experiences - it can open people up to demons. The host experienced God not an experience of self. He should absolutely have nothing to do with peoples spiritual lives. This is what I've had to do to stop it: 1. Rewire my rational mind so I can recognise and reverse magical thinking 2. Stop all occult practices including things like shamanism 3. Stop all drugs and alcohol 4. Sleep at least 6hrs 5. Stress management 6. Become Catholic and learn spiritual warefare This is my latest configuration.

Thank you for this interview. I'm so grateful to Will for being one of the individuals in the early years of the health rights and human rights awareness movement as it pertains to psychiatry. I am grateful to Will for starting the Freedom Center and his influence in the early stages of the RLC. I really feel it saved me and informed my perspective so much. I still have the guide that Will and Oryx wrote together. I admire how he's been at it for a couple of decades now, and remember workshops nearly 20 years ago in Northampton and Holyoke.

The System does not want anyone to Self Actualize

Yes it does, it wants everyone to self-actualize as a transcendent superorganism. Assuming we're referring to the same The System.

Love heals, hate steals. Take your pick. Love is courageous. Hate is cowardice. Complexity invites confusion. Simplify where you can and let go of those who try to profit from your submission. The prison system is all around you. The school system conditions you to it.

A fascinating conversation, thank you both. I experience my mystical experiences in dreams, then paint the energy or symbols I get there in my paintings. It’s allowed me to become a full time artist! I used to give meditation sessions at a mental hospital here in Ireland. The meditations I do are very intuitive imaginative journeys. I had great feedback from patients and staff there. It was wonderful that the staff were open to this kind of work. Part of me sensed that many, not all, of the people there were having spiritual experiences/crisis, and that indeed they would have been treated very differently in a culture where shamanism is recognised for what it is. The wounded healers. And then also there are other people who are suffering some kind of physical mental issues where they can be a danger to society. It’s a really complex topic and it’s good to see it getting an airing. We need to be able to talk openly and without fear of judgement, character smearing or system consequences. Thanks to both of you for sharing your spiritual experiences so openly. 🙏

I'm sorry that happened to you. Your story reminds me of the Kelly Thomas versus Ferguson PD slaughter, which produced the hardest to watch body cam footage ever. Because Thomas was the incorrect race for major press coverage, the case didn't bring much change to arrest protocols regarding the mentally challenged.

I haven't heard of that case. It's a horrible position to be in, and unfortunately happens too often.

We should really be getting at the root causes of WHY these altered states happen, why autism is exploding and such, as much as we are hoping to recreate a society geared towards living with these growing psychological conditions.

Yes, more research is needed and DSM is far from complete or right on every disorder. It is a work in progress that helps insurance companies codify mental illness and psychiatrists to reach a consensus. Otherwise, every psychotherapist would base their diagnosis on completely subjective criteria. Of course, politics are involved when so many specialists are called to contribute. Our job is to find ways to keep an open mind while the contributors to the DSM have to provide evidence that they are not getting paid by third parties.

You should absolutely not leave someone alone in a room with food during a psychotic episode. Please look up "Engineering mental sanity". Many people if treated that way would land up committing suicide. This guy is actually naïve and irresponsible.
