The GOAT of 80s frontmen. Michael had serious onstage magic and worked damned hard for the band's success. He cowrote most of the songs with Andrew F...Michael was a poet and wrote most of the lyrics and melodies. There is a beautiful live version of this song from a 1988 concert in San Francisco.

My favourite INXS song. You can see, even at such a young age, Michael Hutchence had IT, the same IT that guys like Jagger and Mercury had.

I was introduced to this song and band at the time by my best friend John. We were in HS, but I wasn't into alot of 80's music. This became my favorite band from that era. Singer Michael Hutchens was one of the greatest singers of all time, when he passed Inxs disbanded, they knew it would never be the same.. John my friend it was you who introduced me to this incredible band with this song. I lost John in 2005. This song holds a special place in my heart, and always will R.I.P John and Michael

Glad you did this song. It's rare to find a reactor who listened to this song. This song came out before INXS became popular in the U.S., so most Americans don't even know this song. It's like the songs New Year's Day and Bad by U@ which came out before U2 became popular in the U.S. At least those two songs by U2 were played on hard rock stations so only people who listened to hard rock stations knew of those songs.

Quintessential New Wave! When this song and "The One Thing" came out, I was locked in as a New Wave fan (formerly, I was all about my Prog Rock and Fusion Jazz stuff)! INXS is one of my favorites off all time -- check out "What You Need" and "Good & Bad Times", by INXS. Also, if you like this kind of music, please listen to an 80's band called "Tears For Fears"!! They also have done music since the 80's but they made their fame during the New Wave days. Great bands!

I don't know. You think this particular song is new wave? I'm a huge new wave guy. It's probably my favorite genre but I think of this as more in the post punk garage thing. Similar to cheap trick or the knack.

Oh man I love these guys. I almost got into one of their videos (Devil inside) but even though they were shooting about two blocks away, I was at a U2 concert at the Colosseum in L.A. at the time. They were in the Fun Zone in Balboa area of Newport Beach, Ca. and I'm still kind of bummed because they broke up pretty soon after and that chance was gone forever.

@@robertbagley9199 That's cool ; I respect that. : ) Funny how different people are. I felt like INXS went super-soft in the later years, and their composing ability and lyrics tanked. They abandoned "rock", imho, and went super late '80's pop. I can see why women would like them more than men due to their later year's style, but some of those songs I so despised having to listen to over and over again, like "The Devil Inside". I don't even have words to describe how bad I think it is. : ) However, there were worse ones like Phil Collins. -- OMG -- could not escape that fool anywhere your turned in that decade. He made 800 MILLION dollars in the 80's off of those songs. Later in life he said all those songs sucked and he literally apologized for his career. I've never seen an artist do that -- so I forgive the torment he put me though. It was better to just leave the radio off b/c of Phil getting overplayed. . I'll leave it at this. A person I know who does not like music said one of the most brilliant, unassailable points I ever heard made about music, and that is :: "A Song is Good if it Makes a Person Happy". I wanted to argue at first until I realized that statement is a checkmate on any retort anyone could ever come up with. Nobody can say that's not true. . Keep Your Head on a Swivel !! Stay Alive !! Stay Cool !! Love your brother and sister, life is short !! Out. .

One of the last great rock bands. They were brothers, almost entirely - I think one guy was a buddy. They all stayed together until the singer, Michael Hutchence, checked out in 1997, iirc. One thing I'll never understand about this video though: why did the guy on keys need a 2nd keyboard mounted 8 feet off the floor? I don't recall seeing that anywhere else!

By far my favourite INXS song, and possibly most fans fave, even though it wasn't a huge hit when it was released, and the album this came off "Shaboo Shoobah" was way better than their bloated over-rated "big" album "Kick!" . It also produced 2 other great singles as well called "To Look At You" and "The One Thing".

if you're in the mood for some unmistakable 80s synth and guitar sounds from INXS check out "burn for you". as usual, the old stuff is better than the new stuff. on a side note, an aussie band called regurgitator wrote a song "i like your old stuff better than your new stuff". ironically, I liked regurgitator's old stuff better than that effort.
