God I loved this band, when I was a kid I had the hugest crush on this girl across the street who was like 3 years older than me and her room was full of INXS posters. I use to sing this song to her and she would giggle and say “you’re cute”, but I wasn’t trying to be cute, I was trying so hard to be romantic. Years later we reconnected and today she’s my wife and we danced to this song at our wedding and I play this song for our two baby girls. Music bounds us all together, makes us cry, makes us love, rock... don’t change. ❤️

This brought a tear to my eye.😢 1982, I was 20 and at the peak of my 'spring' youth. I grew up with the best music. My parents being Greek immigrants always had music playing from their prized Greek records, from the 60's, but also the hits from the crooners Frank Sinatra, Andy Williams and my favourite Dean Martin, later, it was Elvis, Engelbert and Tom Jones. Then came ABBA, Sweet (Ballroom Blitz) still the best, Queen, Pink Floyd, Thin Lizzy, and so many more. Music from the 60's, 70's and 80's, was on fire🔥🔥🔥 AND, I MISS THIS ICONIC BAND and the incredible Hutch so much. He oozed a special charisma, a cross between Jagger and Morrison. Life feels so empty without INXS, George Michael, Princess Diana, Donna Summer, 💔💔💔 Thank God Australia still has, Barnsey, Farnsey, ACDC, and so many more giants, past & present in Australian music. ❤❤❤ Now, 40 years later, cannot believe it's 40 years later, and I'll 62 this July 2024. Life has sped by in a blink of an eye. So, as the late great Robin Williams said, "Carpe Diem, seize the day..." cheers to you Michael 🍸❤

Well...if you deduct global nuclear warfare...it wasn't bad. This was part of the 81-83 New Wave run. Totally different from what came before or after. Corporate new wave via MTV took over in 84. INXS still rolled out some good tunes in the later 80's...as did other bands. And we had AIDS!
@danwohlslagel12774 жыл бұрын
In hindsight it felt special- the early 80's was a unique window of time. As a young boy, the world was exploding and things were changing very quickly. We went from an analog world to a brave new beautiful time very quickly, and it was all "for us"...the music really belonged to kids for a short time- it felt very independent and it was unlike anything that had happened previously....New wave, synth pop, Ska, early hiphop on MTV as well as Star Wars, Alien, Raiders of the Lost Ark, BMX, skateboarding, and arcade video games. Fun times- much more carefree.

I have been given the task of learning the drums on this song as well as 4 others by INXS. My first thought was, "this should be easy enough". The songs are easy enough to fake your way through but playing them correctly has been a challenge. 90% of his work is simple kick snare patterns to give the songs a solid back ground. The other 10% are what makes this guy a great drummer. All the individual "fill" parts are simple but landing the right parts in the right places is frying my brain :) Most cover band drummers wouldn't put in the work but I like the challenge. My motivation is, in a fantasy world, if the artist ever saw me play he would say, "you almost got it right right" :)

80's Music Was Great. Lively, Dynamic, With A Huge Variety Of Styles. I think young musicians burning with desire to make it had a better chance somehow with the record companies then. Now we have youtube and social media which provides opportunity for exposure but talent and exposure need to meet with the financial backing and star power know-how that a record company can offer.

God, I remember when this was brand new, I was only 14 years old...now it's September 4th, 2018 - My Birthday, and I just turned 50. Where did the time go? I don't want to grow old, but I wouldn't change a thing - I loved the 70's as a child, and the 80's as a teen. I see so much now I just don't like, and I feel so lucky to have had my youth when I did. It was all better back then as far as I'm concerned.

Younger people may not realize, but this song helped put MTV on the map. Back in the early 1980’s this was on at least 1 time an hour. I could count on watching it during my lunch break every day. It was my favorite then, and favorite now. I’ll always associate this song with Ft. Collins Colorado, a broke-ass lunch of a butter roll, and programming BASIC on a Tandy Color Computer. Great memories. Wouldn’t change for anything.

INTERESTING. i JUST HEARD THIS ON A PODCAST I LISTEN TO WEEKLY. I CAN REM IT BUT HAVE NO DEFINITIVE MEMORIES OF IT. kinda a lost hit now. My rich dad was too cheap to pay for cable.

It is strange that INXS and especially Hutchence tried to erase them from the collective memory through the tabloid press that many times had from where thanks to Hutchenche's bad personal decisions as a result of a serious brain injury and the neglect of all because it was visible he needed help and was crying out for it. Today the last rock frontman is remembered and missed, it will be many years before he sees another artist like him whose presence filled the stage without much adornment.

I had the same thing happen with another song. I was going through a rough patch and I eventually realized that it triggered memories of a time where I had no worries, etc. It was like a smack in the face.

It's unfortunate this song was not a hit when it was originally released. I think it is INXS' best song. It's just as great today as it was when it was released back in 1982.
@teejunee25779 жыл бұрын
+ih8kit I think the album,,Shoobah....did not have enough staying power. It had a few songs that were memorable. And that album cover was not much to look at. InXs had an image and the dog, I think, was a Michael Hutchece thing. We want the band and him. not that canine.

Was this not a hit? I was just starting middle school when it was released and it was the song everyone had to have a copy of. This and The One Thing, ran on MTV quite a bit.
